 | Uggg lice.... My SIL just called- all three of her kids and herself who we recently vacationed with and shared a house for a week have lice from summer camp. Apparently they have had it for about a month- a mom decided to call them yesterday to let her know her kids had it.
So I checked DD- she so fair that I don't think she had any eggs but now I need to get the comb for DH and I. This is awful
I hope we don't have it. My SIL is so upset- her 15 month old had to have all her hair cut off- she looks like a boy. Message edited 9/1/2007 8:20:28 PM. |

 | Re: Uggg lice.... Ugh that stinks. It usually comes back too! I would invest in some tea tree oil hair products and use it daily. It's been known to keep lice away. |

 | Re: Uggg lice.... Don't they have special shampoos for that stuff now? That can kill the eggs and take it away fast..... |

 | Re: Uggg lice.... Its a pain in the tush but its not the end of the world. My one bit of advice is, should you wind up with it, go straight to the doctor for the RX shampoo...dont mess with the over the counter stuff... |

 | Re: Uggg lice.... Thanks so much for all the advice. DD just started a small at-home day care so I dread telling them if she does have it. Hopefully we are fine- not the end of the world but a major annoyance I don't need right now. |

Health food stores sell Tea Trea Oil products. Thursdays Plantation is a good one to use. Paul Mitchell makes some also, but I would stick with the purest stuff which is found at HF stores. There is also a spray that you can find online. I can't remember the name of it, but it's geared for kids. Fairtyale something I want to say. And if your kids DO get lice, I've even seen ads in the LI Parent magazines for people that will pick the nits out (gag!).

My sister dealt with this with her kids and she was ready to be committed to the physchiatric ward after. She would pick and pick and pick the nits out and it would come back. She was about ready to shave her daughters head. If you miss one, you are back at square one because they mutliply rapidly!

Also, be careful with those shampoos IF anyone's DC does get lice. They are pesticides and while there isn't really an alternitive to using them, just be careful because they can be very dangerous. Especially considering we don't let children play on lawns with pesticides, but we put them on their body.

With school starting, it's a good idea to put your kids hair up, spray with a lot of product (put gel in boys hair) and instill in them that they are NOT to share hats, combs, etc. There was an outbreak in my son's class last year and ever since I'm fanatical about checking his head and telling him about not sharing hats, etc.

Oh, and those fun pony rides at places..yeah, well they share helmets. We avoid those at all costs
