I am able to take out books from there so isnt it odd they wont let me take an informal baby storytime class,,,,? and no its not booked....

i was a children's librarian @ Northport public library & this used to be our polilcy too. the libraries in suffolk are strictly divided by school district and at the time they were VERY strict about allowing only distirct patrons partake in the very popular classes-b/c those people are paying the taxes toward the library etc... i *think* what they now do, b.c of so many complaints is that on the day of the program now you can show up and IF there are spaces still open, then they'll let you in. if not, then you can't. perhaps you can ask if you could do that if there is still room? what is your home library? don't they have any classes too? if not, you should call them and strongly suggest they do more programming for little ones. that used to work all the time-the minute taxpayers would complain the director would jump into action and add more programs!

Re: library (sea cliff)
i think sea cliff is an incorporated village and this would be their policy, residents only

Re: library (sea cliff)
Sea Cliff library is not connected to the other library systems. When I lived there I could not use my Sea Cliff library card to take out books from any other library and vice versa.

Re: library (sea cliff)
At our library they do allow non-residents in classes however, there is a separarte "wait list" and the residents get priority and then if there is left they give a few spots (I don't know how many). Our library classes are VERY popular though and there is a lottery system even for residents so it's not a guarantee...
ETA: Don't live in Sea Cliff - just sharing my library's policy.

Re: library (sea cliff)
I thought this was common practice.
Where I grew up, we didn't have a library in our town, so we had the choice of two we could go to
