Re: lets talk liquor
I think it stays good for a long time. My mom has bottles in her house for special occasions/parties and they sit there for a LONG time without being touched after opening and they taste just fine

Re: lets talk liquor
My own vote would be to toss the Smirnoff and beer if it is past, but then I don't drink either, so I could be totally off base.
As for the rum, I have had many types of opened liquor that has been in the cabinet for a loong time.

Re: lets talk liquor
if anything can grow in triple distilled vodka, it probably will take over the world anyway.... so there's no sense in throwing that powerful creature out!
Anything with that high of an alcohol content will last decades if not centuries, at room temp

beer is different, though.... anything with an expiration date will likely go flat and taste bleh after the date... much like cola.
the high octane stuff lasts, though

Re: lets talk liquor
The vodka is good for a LOOOONG time! We store ours in the freezer. As for other hard liquor, it lasts a long time as well.

Re: lets talk liquor
I never noticed an expiration date on beer, just a "born on" date. (Can you tell what we drink?) And beer stands no chance of going bad in our house. The hard stuff lasts a good long time. I wouldn't worry about it going bad.

Re: lets talk liquor
Generally, the higher % of alcohol by volume, the longer its "shelf life". Drinks like wine and beer do not last as long, or should i say, their "best if used by" date is usually not as long. They simply lose their taste and potency after a while. Anything with carbonation wil also eventually go flat.
If you're dealing with hard liquor, as long as you keep it capped and stored properly, YOU will probably go bad before IT does! LOL
In my house, we won't ever have that problem!

Re: lets talk liquor
The vodka and rum should never go bad. The only thing that might make it turn is if it is high in sugar (the flavoured ones). In that case it can spoil, but you will be able to tell just by looking at it, and it very very rarely happens. It will look cloudy instead of clear.
The only liquors really that go bad (other than wine) are cordials. Other than that you are pretty safe most of the time.

thanks everyone. I rarely drink so I'm clueless on this. I just wanted to keep a few things at home in case company would want something.
