Re: let's talk homemade pizza

I make homemade pizza a lot. Sometime I make my own dough, sometimes I buy it at the store or even at the pizza place. Sometimes I even pan fry it and that is yummy too.

Re: let's talk homemade pizza

I buy the fresh dough from the supermarket (in the dairy area). Not sure why but it always tastes better than the pre-made stuff!
I also use this recipe to make my sauce:

Ingredients

* 1 (6 ounce) can tomato paste
* 6 fluid ounces warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
* 3 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
* 1 teaspoon minced garlic
* 2 tablespoons honey
* 1 teaspoon anchovy paste (optional)
* 3/4 teaspoon onion powder
* 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
* 1/4 teaspoon dried marjoram
* 1/4 teaspoon dried basil
* 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
* 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
* 1/8 teaspoon dried red pepper flakes
* salt to taste

Directions

1. In a small bowl, combine tomato paste, water, Parmesan cheese, garlic, honey, anchovy paste, onion powder, oregano, marjoram, basil, ground black pepper, cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes and salt; mix together, breaking up any clumps of cheese.
2. Sauce should sit for 30 minutes to blend flavors; spread over pizza dough and prepare pizza as desired.

Re: let's talk homemade pizza

I buy fresh from the pizza place or frozen whole wheat dough from the supermarket. We usually do fresh mozz/basil/tomato with pesto on the crust, or pepperoni/mozz cheese, or sometimes I will do leftover BBQ chicken with some sauteed onions and peppers, BBQ sauce and pepper jack cheese.

ETA: I have never done it on the grill (only on our pizza stone in the oven) but that will be my next experiment.

I make my own dough, but I'm still perfecting a foolproof recipe.

My typical toppings are carmelized onions, black olives, sliced banana peppers, and dollops of ricotta.

My favorite pizza place puts really thin slices of potato as a topping. So good! I want to try that next time.

Re: let's talk homemade pizza

I buy either fresh or frozen dough from the grocery store.

I usually put onions or fresh basil and tomato.

I also have started grating my own mozzarella. It tastes a lot better then the bagged shredded IMO.

Re: let's talk homemade pizza

when we do pizza we get dough from the store or pizza place. Then we make our own and put on whatever toppings we want. Sometimes we make pizzas with pita bread.

I don't make my own dough, but for the topping I stole this idea from my sister. I marinate fresh tomatoes, garlic, and basil in balamic for about an hour. Then use that instead of sauce with fresh mozz.

Re: let's talk homemade pizza

We either make the dough or buy it from Trader Joes or Wild By Nature. DH & I actually wrote a pizza cookbook as a favor for our wedding. It has almost 100 recipes in it. DH used to be a pizza man through high school and some of college.

My favorite type is to make a shell first (partially cooked dough) and then top it with carmelized onions, black olives, bread crumbs, grated cheese and slices on fontina cheese. Then we pop in back into the oven until it's fully cooked.

Also Buffalo Chicken Pizza or Chicken Bacon Ranch.

Breakfast pizza is so yummy too!

Re: let's talk homemade pizza

I buy the dough at the bread bakery...I use bread dough for a thinner crust pizza and pizza dough for a thicker crust.

I use fresh mozzarella and fresh tomatoes with grated parmigiano cheese or pesto with fresh mozzarella and parmigiano cheese.

Every once in awhile I'll make it with goat cheese and sundried tomatoes with pesto.

We usually get dough from whole foods and then add organic-vegetarian items (I.e. Meatless crumbles in place of sausage, etc). It is so yummy!

I buy the dough from a local bakery. Usually just add sauce and cheese. If I do not feel like making sauce, I will sautee zucchini and an onion and throw that on top.

Buy fresh or frozen dough.

I will cook the pie for about 3 minutes before I add toppings.

I usually add sauce, cheese and pepperoni.

I've gone elaborate using homemade sauce, shredding my cheese, chopping basil, etc. but on a Friday, I usually keep it simple.
