Legos

Ok so I have avoided the whole little Lego phase as long as I possibly could because I hate them. However, my boys (8 and 6) are all in and totally obsessed and really good at building stuff with them. So I'm going for it. I need Lego advice. Storage? Play surfaces? Any other helpful tips and advice you may have to offer that will help me to not lose my mind over these teeny tiny things. TIA!

Re: Legos

We have storage bins to keep them in and stack them up. They stay in the basement except for a few my 6 year old has built that he wants to show in his room high up so no one can touch them. LOL!
When my 9 year old does play with them he mixes up everything and makes what he wants so we have a bin of just lego stuff with a mix of all pieces from other lego sets. My 6 year old is too OCD and needs the pieces to stay together

If you don't have a lot, just have a bin that you can store all the lose pieces. I know some kids like having builts sets on their shelves but if they are going to play with them, pieces will fall off (so it's just easier to break apart and store).

For us - we had a LOT of kits. At first I had separate bins for each color so it would be easier for DS to rebuild a kit. But as that became unmanageable, I spent an entire winter hunting for the pieces for each kit and storing them (with the instructions) in a ziplock bag. All the kits are then stored in large bins.

We used to keep sets in separate Ziplocs with the instructions but my girls tend to mix and match everything when they play so now I have a few things mostly put together on a shelf and the rest in one bin together. Typically they play while I spend the whole time obsessively trying to put things together the way they're meant to go and searching for missing pieces. Cleanup time I give them a little while to store it all and then threaten to vacuum the rest up while secretly hating the idea of losing anything lol. Fun times!
