Leather seats and carseats?
For those of you that have leather in your car and a carseat, what do you put underneath the carseat to protect the leather? I heard BuyBuyBaby & BRU has some seat protectors, but a lot of the reviews were not so great... we are picking the car up today and I was thinking of maybe putting a towel underneath until I can make it out to BBB... anyone have any suggestions or can show me what you have?

Re: Leather seats and carseats?
You're really not supposed to put anything down underneath because it makes the seat less safe. That being said I had a seat cover over the entire seat on my old car (still unsafe.) On my new car I just am using one of the floor mats upside down until we get a seat cover. When we used the seat cover that was snug to the seat I felt the seat itself was still nice and snug.

We don't have anything. It's right on the seat. As the pp said, technically putting anything underneath it compromises the seat.

I've heard the same. It's hard to make peace with the fact that the interiors of our cars will never be the same once we have kids.

Putting something on the seat makes it unsafe b/c the carseat and the car itself are not crash tested with that on it, so you don't know what the damage could be.
Anything "aftermarket" for a carseat is like that actually.

Re: Leather seats and carseats?
We use a seat protector. It is very thin...
I am aware it is not approved for use b/c of not crash tested but I use it anyway ( and I am pretty protective of his safety). I have spoken to a car seat installer regarding the risks. He said he felt more people strapped their kids in with staps not being tight enough, hanging off the shoulders, drank coffee in their cars, had water bottles and things laying around in the car etc that is way more unsafe.

Very True.
My DH is trained in carseat safety and installation and this is a big "no".

Re: Leather seats and carseats?
I have leather seats and haven't noticed any damage and DD is 18 months. Even the milk she spills all over the backseat wipes right up. I think leather is great!
