Learning to use utensils
At what age did your DC learn to do this? DD is 16 months old and is nowhere even close. Just curious....

Re: Learning to use utensils
I don't know, DS will be 17 months in a few days and still has no clue how to use them. I give them to him when he eats and he'll stab his food with them, but not use them correctly.

Re: Learning to use utensils
Around that age we started giving DS a toddler fork and spoon to play with - he would hold it in one hand and eat with the other He started to "get it" more around 18 months and now at 22 month he eats with a fork and his hands at the same time. He gets the concept of using a spoon too but it's so messy I don't usually give him one.

Re: Learning to use utensils
My 18 m/o started to use the fork around 17 months, but the spoon usually leads to a mess! She can get a little bit of food off the spoon, but a lot ends up in the bib. I am going to keep trying and I'm sure she will get it soon.

Re: Learning to use utensils
Sean just started - he's 14 1/2 months.
He's known what to do w/ the spoon for a long time, but he's just now starting to be able to get the food on the spoon and into his mouth by himself ...........
it's a total and complete mess - but whatever .........
Question: - When are they supposed to be able to drink from a regular cup on their own?? This one, we haven't tried yet.

Liam is the same way at 14 months. He knows the movements.. dip the spoon and bring to your mouth.. He just needs help actually doing it. A little Hand over Hand action. He lets me feed him when the hunger is bad But, once he is feeling calm.. it is a huge battle until I give in and let him try.. the meal usually ends soon after and most of the food is on the ground.
