Leapfrog leap pad- yay or nay?
My DH & I would like to get our 3 year old DD a tablet for Christmas this year. We don't want her watching YouTube or cartoons, we just want games or apps that are educational. Any feedback on the leapfrog leap pad would be appreciated. We were looking at the leapfrog epic. Any other recommendations? Thanks.

We have the basic leappad and dd really likes it. Granted, she would pick my iPad any day over the leap pad, but she enjoys the games and songs on it and it's helped her with her letters.

Yay! My sons have them and like them a lot. My 4 1/2 year old still plays with his all the time (he got it when he was 2 since his brother had one). My almost 7 year old played with it until last year when he got a Nintendo 3DS.

I personally would just get the ipad and put educational apps on it. You don't need to add youtube or shows on it.

Re: Leapfrog leap pad- yay or nay?
We got a LeapPad for our 3 year old for about $80 and it's a great tablet for beginners. A year later he still really loves the free apps, drawing and taking pics, and it takes a beating.
It does have parent approved YouTube content (videos) on it though, but I think you can turn that function off.
ETA: if you go the iPad route, I would recommend subscribing to ABCMouse. The pre-K curriculum is great.

DS is 6... and we got him the Leap Pad 2, when he was like 3.Even 3 years later, He actually still plays with it a decent amount. he likes the games, songs, etc. I'm convinced the Letter Factory Game taught him all his letters and letter sounds HAHA because he picked them up really quick, and i wasn't really spending a ton of time with him working on it myself LOL The only downside is that you have to pay extra for pretty much every app/game/etc... so it can add up. (Whereas the IPad has a lot of free apps., you can do Netflix, movies, etc). BUT if you're not quite ready for her to have an all-out iPad... the Leap Pad really is neat. I ended up getting my son's Leap Pad on Ebay, very lightly used... so check there too and it might save you a little bit of money
