Re: LeapFrog LeapPad - Yay or Nay?
My kids have the first leap pad and still play with it regularly. They really enjoy it but that is their only tablet. If your DC has access to other tablets I am not sure, they will love it as much.

Re: LeapFrog LeapPad - Yay or Nay?
It probably depends on how old your DC is.
DS is about to turn 3 and I bought him the Leap Pad Power (with the rechargeable battery pack) for Christmas. I got it off of Ebay lightly used for $70. Obviously, he hasn't used it yet.. but it seems cool. But after I bought it, I started reading that a Kindle Fire is probably a little more "useful". Theres more free apps for it (leap pad games and apps are kind of pricey), plus you can borrow books from your local library on it, download movies and videos to it, etc. so it might be a better buy than the leap pad. But it depends on how old your DC is. I figure DS is 3 and if he uses the leap pad for a year or 2, i'll be happy LOL... then we'll upgrade him to the kindle fire or whatever the newest one is when hes a little bit older
