Lamaze...
Are you girls taking a lamaze class?
For the girls that took it, was it helpful? Some people tell me its a waste of money but then others say it was helpful. Where did you take it?

Lamaze...
DH and I watched a video since our work schedules don't allow us to go to a real class. it was def helpful - i'm not sure if an actual class would be any better.

We're taking a Prepared Childbirth Class at the hospital which includes a hospital tour, breathing techniques and info on c-sections, what to expect, etc.

Lamaze...
We took the one offered by LIJ and felt it was a waste of $175.00. We both said we would have been better off taking an infant care class. I had my baby 2 weeks ago and when I was in labor the breathing came naturally, I didn't use any techniques from the class.

I took it with DD and for me it was a total waste. I couldn't get into it during the class and I knew I would never practice it. I didn't even give it a thought when I was in labor. I agree that an infant care class (if this is your first) would probably be much more helpful.

Did the nurses mainly walk you through how to breathe through the contractions and any of the other things you learned in Lamaze?

I didn't take Lamaze, but I took a Bradley class that DH and I both loved. Really informative and totally worth it imo.

yeah, this one (it's loooong and the lady can get pretty annoying at times but as i said, we still learned a bunch):

The nurse went over a few different breathing patterns, showed videos on c section and a natural birth, talked about the difference between real and false labor and gave us a tour of the hospital. I'm sure I'm leaving something out but obviously I didn't retain much. lol.
As someone who had no intention of breastfeeding and knew I wanted an epidural from the start, I felt the nurse almost had a bit of an attitude. She was very pro natural birth and breastfeeding. And that's great, it just wasn't for me.
If you plan to take the one at
North Shore Manhasset, my advice is to get there early. The conference room is very small and has a large table with like 12 comfy chairs. We got there on time and had to sit in regular chairs surrounding the outside of the table. Not fun for an 8 hour class!
