Ladies with cats...PG related please don't move
We have 2 cats – about 8 years old. They have been pretty good so far…but we recently re-did our basement which was kind of their territory (where the litter box etc is). It was an old typical basement and we finished it. Twice now I have found that they peed on things – once in an empty laundry basket and once on a blanket that was on the floor, going into the wash. They have never ever done that before. I don’t know what to do. Is it because we re-did their “territory” or do they sense a lot of changes – me being pregnant, etc? I know that I refuse to put up with that with a baby in the house. Plus it really angers me – all the $ we spent on the basement and all of the hard work my DH put into it (he did a lot of it himself). Has anyone gone through this before? What was the outcome?

I wish I had some great advise- my animals have progressively gotten worse and worse. Maca peed in the shower the other day. They are gross and vile.. but they are ours and we're stuck with 'em.

Did u move the litter boxes???? They may be going b/c that is the place they were used to. Get nature's miracle-it works really well--it's available at pet stores.
Hang in there-they should come around

We had a cat that did that once, kept on doing it..Was a male and it SMELLED and he was fixed too. Eventually we couldnt stand it, we gave him to a friend who loved him to see how he was, and he was fine with her, so she kept him. We had other cats at the time and thought it best if he was alone, and it worked out.
Get natures miracle cleaner and get rid of the smell best you can, once they cant smell it any longer, sometimes they stop.
I swear I LOVE my cats, I used to putt hem on pedestals, now that I have a kid, they are more and more annoying in their habits to me sad but true.

Re: Ladies with cats...PG related please don't move
i know it sounds crazy but they are probably doing it to send you a message that you changed thier domain around and aren't too happy! my cats have done this kind of stuff before too...they even peed in my slippers once after i came back from a long trip. the only other thing to worry about is that one of them could be having a bladder issue like crystals so if they seem sluggish, in pain or arent eating and drinking you may want to bring them to the vet. hopefully its just them being peeved and this too shall pass! My guess is your problem is because you moved their litter boxes. They may still be smelling where the litter boxes used to be and going in that location. Did you move the litter to a totally different part of the house? If so, you may have to lock them out of the basement until they get used to the new litter spot. Also, make sure that neither of them is sick. The only time my cat ever peed outside of litter box was when she had a urinary infection.

Re: Ladies with cats...PG related please don't move
we are experiencing this lately. All of a sudden one of our cats started peeing at the bottom of our basement stairs (our cats also have the basement as theirs). Then last week one of the cats peed on kaydyn's floor in her room and it got on two of her shirts. We started keeping her door closed during the day. Well sure enough the other day one of us forogt to close her door and the cat peed again on her floor. I am so annoyed at them now. I know it's one of two cats but we can't tell which one it is. I feed bad but I really think we might need to keep them in the basement from now on (it's finished and heated and everything). We live in an apt and I don't want them ruining carpetting/furniture/floors...etc as well as ruining our stuff.
We don't know if it's from when we had Kaydyn (she is 16 months) or from when we got the new puppy (in Oct). Either way it's disgusting.

Petco makes a litter that attracts cats to litter boxes, why not give that a try?
Its generaly used when training a kitten or cat that used to be outside.
As for soiled spots, cats have an awesome sense of smell so it needs to be cleaned up really well.
I have cats, birds, rabbits and a dog. I know what a PITA it can be to clean up after them all.

Re: Ladies with cats...PG related please don't move
We live in a 2 bedroom home and the 2nd bedroom for the last 3.5 years has always been the "kitty play room" for our 3 little hellions. Well when we found out we were PG we had to turn that room into the nursery and move the litter box froim that room into a brrom closet basically and we were really expecting accidents and alot of resistence to this move but they handled it very well. We basically removed any evidence that the room was ever "the cat's room". We haven't had any accidents but we also have hardwood flooring throughout our house so it's hard to tell sometimes if they do. The cats really mostly want to get back into that room and sleep in the crib (which we have caught them doing) and one thinks the baby's car seat is all his to sleep in. We keep the door shut now. I thought the adjustment went pretty smoothly though.
