Ladies Who Commute to NYC?
I'm 32 weeks and just this past week I've become more terrified about the possibility of my water breaking, etc while I'm at work! What are your plans for getting back to LI to have your babies if it's in the middle of the work day?!

Re: Ladies Who Commute to NYC?
I haven't really given this much though actually.
I guess as soon as I start feeling contractions or anything, I'm going to hop on a train to Mineola - Winthrop is right there.
That is a very good question, though... I'm going to have to come up with a plan!! How about you??
ETA: This question seriously just gave me anxiety! lol I have NO IDEA how I'm going to sit on a train for 30 minutes having contractions! I'd say DH could come pick me up, but Lord knows how long it will take to get from NYC to Mineola in traffic. YIKES!

Glad to see I'm not the only one who hasn't really thought about it either! I guess I would do the same thing and head straight to the hospital?! I have no clue!

Re: Ladies Who Commute to NYC?
I've been thinking about this as well. I'm 30 weeks right now & I've been feeling alot of pressure & uncomfortable the past 3-4 days.
Commuting is getting harder - I have to leave earlier to catch my bus, because I can't walk fast. Sitting gets uncomfortable after 20 minutes, my legs feel so heavy when I get off - I feel all the blood rushing through them.
I'm nervous because after 9:30 am there is no express bus near my office that runs back to Queens. That would mean having to take the subway home & I can't do that. It's longer & I've been lucky to have the escalators out of order several times early on in my pregnancy.
I want to work until the end - so I can have more time for maternity leave. I'll have to discuss all of this with DH & see what he says.

Re: Ladies Who Commute to NYC?
I work in Brooklyn and I drive. I am fortunate in that I also work with my sister and my BIL is FDNY EMT - one phone call and I am at LIJ in minutes.
Make sure that SOMEONE you work with knows what your wishes are and can help advocate for you. I work across the street from one of the WORST public hospitals in the whole city. Basically, you are only good there if you get shot. Having a baby or open heart surgery there is not an option. Id rather perform my own c-section on my self.

I never really gave it much thought, and I worked up until a few days before my due date - - I'm sure my company would have put me in a car service and I would have gone straight to the hospital .........

Re: Ladies Who Commute to NYC?
I'm sure I'll be nervous about this as I get closer--I have an hour long train ride. I'm hoping that the dr will be able to give me some insight at my weekly appts near the end.
A lot of my coworkers commute and none of them went into labor while commuting or in the office--I'm hoping I'm as lucky!

Re: Ladies Who Commute to NYC?
Very good question. While I'm only 20 weeks and haven't given it a ton of thought, I have talked to my boss about working from home the last month of my pregnancy and he seemed pretty receptive to it.
I can't imagine having to commute home in labor

Re: Ladies Who Commute to NYC?
I am leaving work after next week for this very fear! I am almost 36 weeks and still commute to downtown from Mineola. My DH made me put the phone number of a car service in my phone and so my plan was to call them if I need it. I am delivering at North Shore so it isn't terribly far if I need to get there from here. There is a hospital right near me at work but it is sketchy so I refuse to go there. Thankfully at my appt. on Monday my doctor said I am nowhere near ready so I am praying for no surprises while still at work.

Re: Ladies Who Commute to NYC?
My plan with this PG is the same as with DD.
Luckily I work 2 blocks from Penn & live in Mineola & will deliver at Winthrop. I would just hop on the train. For me it would take longer to get to the bridge/tunnel than the LIRR ride would take.
Hopefully it won't come to this

Re: Ladies Who Commute to NYC?
I don't work in the city, but I do commute from Islandia to New Hyde Park every day (and my hospital is in Port Jeff). I thought about this just yesterday as I was sitting in bumper to bumper traffic on the Northern State... what the heck would I do if I were in labor?? There is no "rushing" anywhere during rush hour! I plan to ask my boss if I can work from home for the last couple of weeks to avoid this possible issue (or maybe I can get my dr to write a note ordering it!). Otherwise it will give me horrible anxiety as I get closer to the end!
