Ladies That See an RE/IF Professionals

When did you decide it was time that you needed help TTC?

A few months? A few years? Can you decide that on your own or does your OBGYN or insurance company decide that for you??

Usually for women under the age of 35 you wait a year before seeing and RE/IF. 35 and older after 6 months of TTC. Unless of course you have a previous condition that can inhibit conceiving.

Wow, I was about to post this same question. We've been trying for 6 months. My GYN said that is takes the typical healthy couple 6-8 months to conceive. After that he recommends an RE. He gave me the number for Rosenfeld and said that I can give it a couple of more months. As he said, he doesn't like to drag it out. If you've been trying for 6-8 months he recommends making an appt.

Re: Ladies That See an RE/IF Professionals

I have an amazing PPO so I didn't have to get a referral. I went off the pill in January and was trying NOT to get pregnant for the first 3 months. Then we started trying. Started really paying attention in May/June. Then I started charting in September and using the CBEFM.

Considering I got pregnant literally in the first month of trying with my daughter, miscarried, and got pregnant one week later, red flags started raising around October, so that's when I made an appointment directly with the RE.

We waited almost a year, even though we knew it would be difficult to get pregnant due to DH's issues (testicular cancer survivor). We didn't need a referral, as we have amazing insurance. We just made an appt. and went from there. I do have to have any IF procedures preapproved, though.

We got PG on the first month trying, had an early m/c, and then nothing for 11 months. We were ready to go to the RE after about 9 months but had to wait b/c we were helping a family member that was very sick. We were PG 6 weeks after starting with him!

Re: Ladies That See an RE/IF Professionals

After 6 months of TTC on our own and 3 months of help with my OB/GYN, we went to an RE because of a failed attempt at an HSG. I dont need referrals for an RE so I could have gone sooner. I wasn't ready to. I wanted to make my process as normal as I could before moving on to a more invasive course of action. I still want my process to seem normal, but it isnt. It su ck s.

Re: Ladies That See an RE/IF Professionals

After our 6th cycle of trying I got serious. I went to a new OB/GYN as I changed jobs and wanted a doctor close to work. I ran all the regular tests with her - full pelvic sonogram, initial blood tests, HSG. She then referred me to a specialist. (she was in network but the specialist was not - but I did a lot of research on the specialist - including here - and found out he was well respected so we decided to pay out of pocket and get reimbursed).

I took all my lab reports and HSG to the specialist - I was about 12 DPO and he did a sonogram on my first visit.

Hope that helps...

Re: Ladies That See an RE/IF Professionals

I saw an RE after my 2nd miscarriage. That was about 6 months after we started trying. I just got some answers with a different Dr in July:about 2 yrs later. I felt something was wrong even though I was told it was"chance" and my intuition was right

ETA: I am 33

Re: Ladies That See an RE/IF Professionals

my ob-gyn did some tests first (blood tests, sonos) at about 9 months. When the results did not come out good, I made the RE appt.

Re: Ladies That See an RE/IF Professionals

Well we started "not preventing" in Sept 06 and really trying with timed intercourse in Jan 07. By June I had a feeling something was wrong and at my annual in July I told my OB we had been trying for a year (a little lie never hurt anyoneChat Icon ). He immediately set me up for cd3 b/w, HSG, and S/a for DH. Well I am so glad we didn't wait for the magical year mark because we found out we have severe male factor issues. We started seeing an RE in Oct and we are just about to start IVF. If you have a feeling something isn't right, trust your gut. Good luckChat Icon

Re: Ladies That See an RE/IF Professionals

DH and I started trying six months after getting married. I was 38 and wanted to start right away as I knew I would have issues as I have irregular cycles.
I went straight to my GYN and he prescribed Clomid which I did for five months and then he referred me to an RE.
