Labial Adhesion

In Oct we took DD to the ER for an episode she had ( thank goodness all is well now!) Anyway, the doctor who discharged her pointed out that she had Labial Adhesion and that we should mention it to our Ped. When we asked her about it, she said she noticed it, but that it was no big deal and we she would just keep an eye on it. This past Monday, at DD's well visit, we saw a new doctor. She noticed it, explained it to us and gave us a prescription cream to use to help the labia separate. It is an estrogen cream. I was hesitant to use it, but trusted the doctor. I refrained from Googling to save myself from going insane - but today I caved. Anyone experience this and use the cream? Anyone's doctor give them an alternative treatment? Or let it be? TIA

DD had this and we used the cream. The adhesion eventually came apart. I was freaked out too when I was first told about it, but it turned out okay at the end

My daughter also has this issue but our doctor didn't want to give her a hormonal cream just wait and see what happens over time.

Dd had it as an infant and our ped just told us to use petroleum jelly. It eventually separated.

DD had it- they noticed it when she was only a few months old..
The Dr said that if it wasn't cleared up by a certain age they would use the estrogen cream.
he said many times it goes away on its own.
But at her last visit- 18 months- they didn't mention it- so I am guessing it cleared on it's own

My friend's daughter has it - she's a teenager now and I don't know how they treated it when she was very young, but I know they did give her the hormonal cream to apply when she was around 10 years old and she's still struggling with it as a teenager. I imagine the treatment 15 years ago was different than it is today, so I'd follow the Ped's advice or if it worries you, get a second opinion to ease your mind.

The doctor has us applying it 2x/day for 2 weeks and/or them separating and then aquafor or vaseline to keep them from coming together again. Glad to know that many of your DD got passed this without further intervention! Makes me feel better.

My doctor also told me if she doesn't have a problem going to the bathroom then just leave it alone. She doesn't seem bothered by it

I don't have experience but just wanted to say that I would be pissed that the ped did notice it and didn't say anything bc he thought it was no big deal. As a parent I want to be made aware of these types of issues- serious, potential, barely there but obviously there enough to be picked up on, etc. you get the point. I think that was very unprofessional. Also, these peds have many patients and don't always remember to re-check these "little issues". For example, at one of our apps ds' testicle looked "maybe a tiny bit swollen". I asked the ped to check it every single time we went and also I kept a better eye on it at home.

My DD, who will be 4 in march has this. I am SO glad DD2 doesn't.

Luckily we gave no issues, but we were using the cream (she's had this since birth) & it would separate, only to recluse again. I even asked my OM/GYN and both confirmed that while the cream is such a small amount, if it's not interfering with using the bathroom, to just leave it & once puberty starts it will resolve.

It used to hurt to use the cream, so we decided to stop putting her through it & have had no issues.

Our ped told us back in the day, & there still might be Drs out there, who will just tear it . I'm glad someone pointed it out to you, shame on your ped!!!!
