lab w/ hives
My 4 year old yello lab just developed some hives on the top of his head. They were hard to see just like raised patches of hair. I remember something like this happening to him a few years ago. I gave him 25mg of benadryl to help bring them down. He was acting normal playful, ate his whole dinner. I am always a nervous nelly when it comes to the dog. Anyone have experience with this? I think he may have been bite by something while we were outside walking before dinner. I am going to keep an eye on him and if it gets worse bring him to the emergency vet. I think the benadryl is kicking in b/c he seems sleepy now.

My dog gets hives on her belly. I give benadryl and put neosporin on the hives. They usually go away with in a day.

Re: lab w/ hives
Mine gets rashes on his stomach from time to time. We have Gentocin spray that we got from the vet the first time it happened which usually does the trick.

Re: lab w/ hives
My dog has severe food allergies and that's one of the signs her food doesn't agree with her. The raised bumps on her head

Re: lab w/ hives
We give my dog benadryl when her dry skin or allergies act up. It seems to help, and I hate keeping her on the prednisone, which helps a lot, but isn't great long term.

Re: lab w/ hives
Thank you all for your input. After I gave him 25mg of benadryl Thursday night and they seemed to start going down. I ended up giving him another 25mg before bed.(He weighs 83lbs). When we woke up in the morning they were gone. Last night Saturday DH noticed them starting a little bit after we had been outside so I washed his entire head/face with a wash cloth and warm water, and dried him and they went away. I really think he either got a bug bite, or it is just allergies. There is so much pollen on the ground here (we live in VA) from the pine trees. There are these little bud like things falling all over the place, and the dead leaves. Poor pup has been battling allergies for a few months. He was constantly licking at his feet. The vet but him on an antihistamine last month, and an antibiotic b/c he licked a sore into one of his pads. I don't want to put him on a steroid right now b/c I am 10 weeks pregnant. DH doesn't have the patience to cut up pills & hide them in roast beef for our fur baby.
