Kitchenaid Standmixer
Does anyone know the difference between the Artisan 5qt and the Classic 4.5qt (other than the 1/2qt difference) and price?
Which would you get?
Also is $299.99 (with a $30 rebate) a good price for the Artisan? Do you think I could get lower?
Thanks!!

Re: Kitchenaid Standmixer
I'm not sure which one, but I have seen the mixers on sale at costco around thanksgiving time.

You;re looking at the tilt-head ones, right?
The Artisan has a 325watt motor vs. the 250 watt motor on the "classic". The Classic also has a slightly lower capacity. The bowl has no handle.
I think it all depends on the baking you do. I have the Professional 6 quart one with the spiral dough hook because I'm a serious baker.
This link should help
ETA: $299 is a good price.

this! honestly, this is something you are going to have for a LONG time so i would go with the larger bowl, better motor.

I agree. It's a big investment, and you want something that can grow with you, so I'd spend a little more now. Before I got married I spent a lot of money replacing/upgrading my mom's small kitchen electrics (hand mixer, blender, etc) because I burned them out since they weren't up for the tasks I put them to. My mom had the professional stand mixer though so that was never a problem. I think she's had it for 20 years.

Re: Kitchenaid Standmixer
I also think it depends on your needs. If you're going to make brownies or a cake twice a year then get the cheaper one, but of you're a serious baker or make bread and so on get the bigggest motor! We had the smaller one and it did good until my husband left it unattended making bread and it walked right off the counter We're getting a new one at Thanksgiving. EIther the artisan or the 6qt. We also are brand specific since we have a lot of the accessories for the kitchenaide like the pasta maker and sausage maker and the shredder. I have also heard good things about the Bosch(?) mixer.

I don't know does the smaller one allow for pasta/raviolli attachment?
There are so many attachments for it, for all kind of things you may want to do.
