Kind of a stupid question

but how long after you give birth do you get AF back? I've heard so many things ranging from a few months to a whole year! Chat Icon And if you aren't getting her do you really need a form of birth control if you do not wish to get pregnant again? Isn't it impossible to get pregnant without AF?! This confuses me! Thanks!

I think you are right that in ranges and I am not positive about this but I think you can get pregnant without AF. . but don't quote me on that. . and you can DEF get pregnant while BFing bc I know at least two people that were surprised by their 2nd pregnancy..

Re: Kind of a stupid question

It definitely varies for everyone. For me, when I had DD it took 6 months. AF came when I was starting to wean DD from BFing. Honestly I was so tired we hardly BD'd (DD didn't sleep through the night until she was 7 months, she hardly napped, I was a SAHM & DH was away for work most weeks all week long.) But I have heard of BFing moms going on a "mini-pill" while BFing with less hormones. I would talk to your doctor about what your options are. Chat Icon

Re: Kind of a stupid question

I got AF 7 weeks pp and I am breast feeding. At my 6 week appt, my dr told me I will eventually ovulate at some point and not know when. He put me on birth control that won't dry out my milk and I got my period a week later.

Re: Kind of a stupid question

I bf and did not get AF for a year - you can get pregnant before AF- because ou usually ovulate 2 weeks before AF

some people go on BC at there 6 week visit - i chose not too because i was BFing and did not want to add hormones to my body - we used condoms did not know when i would get AF back

Re: Kind of a stupid question

I EBF'd and got it 7.5 months PP with DS.

You can most definitely get pregnant without having AF. You can still ovulate and just not know it. I know someone who got pregnant twice in between kids and not knowing until far into the pregnancy because AF hadn't returned.
