Did you use rubber mulch or a rubber floor. I would prefer a rubber floor but i don't want to spend a fortune. Also if you have pics that would be great. Tia

rubber mulch hurts when they fall. and is pricy and weeds will still grow. (my opinion worse option)

rubber floor mats=drainage prob. but easy to sweep leaves etc. doesn't hurt when they fall. cheaper than rubber mulch. no weed growing through prob.

my choices:

wood mulch: pros is cheap, doesn't hurt when they fall, no drainage issues. Cons, weeds still grow, replenish every 2 years.

Indoor/outdoor carpet-the cheapest kind at like HD for like 23cent for square foot. No drainage issues, no hurting issues, no weeds. and long lasting. probably get 5-10 years out of it.

Currently have wood mulch. But have considered going to outdoor carpet.

Re: Kids play area in the yard

We opted against rubber mulch bc it's really expensive and it's hard to pick up once it starts getting all over your grass.

My concern with a rubber mat is that it can get pretty hot and could potentially burn them. Especially if they fall the "wrong" way or get a "rug burn" type of injury.

We decided to just stick with grass. We put sod down.

We have rubber mulch but our play area is enclosed with railroad ties so it doesn't get anywhere. the slide goes out onto the grass and i have never had a problem with anyone getting hurt falling on it.

I feel like such a slacker mom.. my kids play area has dirt and grass. Eep. Oh well, they are older now so I guess I no longer need to worry about it!
