Kids choking
I am scared....like paralysed with fear every time I feed Emmy. She is 2.5 and every now and then will choke. I don't mean gag or cough I mean straight up no coughing, turns blue chokes. This has happened 4 times since she was a year old. She just did it again the other night on a bagel. She eats them every day but was playing and started choking while running into the kitchen. I seriously hold my breath at every meal and my DH doesn't get it. He thinks i'm nuts and makes fun of how small I cut her food. He was here SUnday and saw her choke. He gets it now, but still thinks i'm to paranoid. How do you relax? Sawyer is 8 months and my mom wasn't paying attention and he choked on a hotdog bun I told her to stop letting him gum it, but she ignored me. 1 minute later he turned blue and was not making a sound. I got both, yes both HUGE pieces of mushy bun out but now i'm scared for him too.
I just don't know what to do anymore. If I could they would live on protine smoothies until they were 18 I'm sure some of this is because as a paramedic I had an infant and a toddler choking where the kids both died. I'm just so scared.

I don't know...was she playing and eating at the same time? Maybe a more controlled environment? Sitting at the table in a booster etc where you can monitor her more.
As for your DS at 8 months I was only giving my kids small pieces of foods, a few at a time so they couldn't stuff them in their mouths. (DS is a stuffer)

This exactly. I try never to let Kieran play or move around while eating. He knows that the rule is he needs to sit or stand in one place to eat. I am paranoid about choking. I definitely would not allow an 8 month old to be chewing on a hot dog bun. It's way too dense and mushy, and they could easily get a huge piece off and choke.

Kids choking
I agree with you guys and this last time with Em was 100% my fault. I should have made her sit still. As for Sawyer, I don't mind him chewing on somethings like Artichokes(which he loves), cooked green beans and so on, but white bread is very mushy. My mom thought he was spitting it out, but he is a hoarder. I could have died when he started choking. She is now only allowed to feed him purées or food in the mesh teether.
I just worry so much that they will choke on everything Besides the bagel incident with DD those other times she was sitting and the pieces were small. I'm just scared to death something will happen to her. She is going with my mom for 2 days and after the Sawyer thing she let it slip Em had choked once before with her. Come to find out it was on a watermelon ball Yes a watermelon BALL. I explained she can have them but cut in half at the least....I just feel like I can't trust my Mom or myself anymore to keep her safe.
