Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors

I brought my 16 month old into a tattoo parlor. She was safely held by her Daddy. I don't see the big deal.

Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors

Since it was at a friend's house, I don't think it is a problem. I have a friend whose husband has a parlor in their basement. If DS was a little older (since he's just an infant right now), I would have no problem going there and bringing him.

I wouldn't take mine to one out of pure safety reasons (my children would think it's so cool, especially being that so many family and friends have tats! lol) but how is that any different from someone smoking or drinking of front of their child?

you wouldn't bring your 4 year old into a bar would you ?

Again ..maybe I'm just more conservative in my thinking.

You dont have to be in a bar to drink or smoke in front of a child...

i really dont see a problem with them being there...

Nor do I. And I actually was in a bar many times as a kid. Hell, we had Irish step dancing classes in the bar!

Its interesting because it really depends on what culture you were brought up in...

ask ANY fireman's daughter...

kid in a bar, not a big deal.

Or any cop's daughter... Chat Icon

Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors

I just don't think it's a place for kids.

Is anything going on in a tattoo shop that a kid couldn't be around or see? Eh, most likely not (although the conversations aren't always "kid friendly") but I just don't think it's a place for kids.

As someone who's sat for HOURS, I'm talking six plus hours getting tattooed, no, I wouldn't want a kid in there. Even the little ones. I'm sorry, I don't mean to offend parents who would bring their kid but I don't want them around.

I can't really give a better explanation as to why but I just wouldn't bring a kid there nor would I want a kid around while I'm getting done.

I seriously debated bringing all three of my kids thelast time I went. I can NEVER get away for a second without my kids, and I've been wanting two tattoos forever. My sister was getting a tattoo as well, so she would have watched them while I got mine.

BUT, there is some art on the walls that I dont think is appropriate, as well as the, um, piercing models in the display case. And the general atmosphere, bad language, etc. was not really fitting. I ended up being able to leave them home with DH.

If it was a matter of not being able to go or bringing them, I would bring them.

Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors

Sorry but I see no issue with taking your kid to a tattoo parlor at all.

AJ went with us when I got mine on my arm, but she was in her carrier.

If I got one now, I'd take her along. I think she'd be fascinated by it actually. I have never been to a tattoo parlor with folks drinking like a bar or smoking for that matter. Really its like walking into a comic book. Tons of drawings all over the place. Most places I've been to are businesses and run like one. Very courteous and professional, clean and orderly.

I see no problem with this at all. It wouldn't have even phased me one bit.

Frankly I'd rather have my daughter in a tattoo parlor than a subway hahaha Chat Icon and in some cases even doctors offices freak me out more!

Meh

ETA: She hears bad language wherever we go.. its not a big deal for me. Usually she's easily distracted and I think mama getting ink would seriously drown out everything else! Chat Icon As far as the images on the wall. I don't believe in hiding nudity in any form. Its just a drawing. I don't care how graphic it is. Now, maybe its just me, but I've never seen DTD out there in HUGE display. Besides... I'd probably sit her down to go through a book with relatively mild tattoos. She'd think it was a sticker book I'm sure.

I should add. I have a totally of 4 in one area of my arm. Hubby has ovr 7. She loves to trace them with her finger. So I may be bias.

Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors

I don't see what's the big deal. We took DD when she was 1.5 with us when DH got his tattoo. I sat with her and played while DH was getting his done. The people at the tatoo parlor were in love with her. I didn't even think twice about taking her. Don't see what the big deal is.

only if I had another adult with me, I wouldn't be able to tend to a child whilst held down on a table with a needle in my back. I wouldn't call it "inappropriate" though

Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors

i dont really see the problem with it. its not like its an illegal thing that the kid shouldnt be seeing. as long as the kid isnt getting into any danger there i dont see the problem.

and as for the bar comment made earlier...sure i wouldnt bring a kid to a bar at night but i would bring a kid to a bar to eat in a booth...they are usually restaurants too. the kid doesnt know the difference of what you are drinking

Re: Kids and Tattoo Parlors

I have multiple tattoos but just wouldnt feel comfortable ever bringing my kids there...
IMO if an establishment is built on the fact that it can only be used by people of legal age than theres no need for my kids to be there.

ex: Bars 21 and over
Tattoos: 18 and over
