Kicked Out Of Daycare- Is this Possible??

My 19 month old twins go to daycare twice a week for 4 hours. They have been going for only 3 weeks.
Every time my husband picks them up, the head instructor tells him that our son is very clingy and must always be held by an instructor. She told him that it is separation anxiety and it should get better over time.
Our daughter on the other hand has been fine until today. Today, when my husband picked the kids up the head instructor told him that our daughter had temper tantrums when she was asked to do something and would not cooperate.
My husband got the feeling that it might be a matter of time in which we are asked to not bring the kids back. Today's was the only time our daughter acted the way she did while she was there.
Is it possible to get kicked out of daycare for these reasons? Shouldn't the instructor be handling these issues on her own or is it the parent's problem? I am pretty confident that my twins are not the only babies that have had a tantrum while at this center or have suffered from separation anxiety. Should my husband have felt bad?

I don't think you would get kicked out for that. Separation anxiety is totally normal at that age and it's still new for your kids to go. Temper tantrums are also normal lol. Don't worry give it more time for them to get adjusted.

Eta: the teachers tell me the good and bad about DS when at daycare, she may just want to let you know honestly how they are doing

It's both the school and the parents issue. Yes the school should work on it but so should you.

Yes daycare can "kick" kids out but it's usual kids that are such a disruption or if they are biters that don't stop.

did they tell you that you are at risk of getting kicked out of daycare???
i think that is a bit extreme. either you are jumping to very drastic conclusions or the daycare is way out of line (according to your account in this post)

Thanks! The daycare is not a school it is actually a small center operated out of a house. Does that matter??

My husband asked the head instructor today, if they were at risk of getting kicked out. She said "No its not something you have to worry about yet"

I actually do think that matters. I know at my center they have a ton of teachers and floaters so they can take a kid out or help with a kid that is upset etc. At a home I am guessing they don't have many teachers. So that really takes away from the other kids.

He will get over it in time. I worked at a daycare and had two year olds. I had one little boy that would not let me leave his side. He would scream if I left the room for any reason and would cry if he woke up from nap and I wasn't there. It lasted about a month and then he was fine

3 weeks isn't that long. I'm sure he will settle in time. And what 19 mo old doesn't throw a tantrum every now and then?? They don't understand at that age, so they should be used to it. I could see if they were constantly hurting another child, but a tantrum is normal. Even though it's a home day care, they need to have X # of adults per X # of kids, depending on ages. I'm not sure how severe his anxiety is , but the teacher holding him all day isn't helping him adjust, just fostering the habit.

I think the issues you are talking about are very normal for their age! I would gauge my response according to how day care is handling it. I cannot imagine "kicking out" 19 month old babies due to so called tantrums or separation issues. How is the day care responding to your children's needs? That is what I would base my response on. There should certainly be a way to handle a 19 month old who needs to be held, or one who appears less cooperative, for whatever reason. If it isn't something they seem able to work with, I would be looking elsewhere, for a better fit.

These don't sound like reasons for children to be asked to leave a daycare facility. They are within the realm of developmentally appropriate behavior.

I work at a preschool for children with behavioral difficulties, and many of them have been kicked out of previous daycare and preschool programs, for behaviors like throwing chairs, toppling tables, and aggression toward staff and peers. What your kids are doing is nothing even close to that!

If these were reasons to be kicked out of daycare, my daughter would have been gone LONG ago.
These are normal behaviors for children that age.
Remember also that you are a PAYING customer.
This is what they are PAID to deal with.

Re: Kicked Out Of Daycare- Is this Possible??

I highly doubt a child would be removed from a daycare for those reasons. When I worked in a center children were certainly kicked out for behavioral issues but most times we asked to have the child evaluated because something was wrong and the child needed more help than the center could provide. Also children who bite repeatedly at an older age were sometimes kicked out but rarely. 19 months old have separation anxiety, they have tantrums 100% normal! The staff should know these behaviors are normal and be able to handle it. If they can't handle their behaviors it's a red flag to me. Licensed centers must provide training to it's employees so they should know the correct way to deal with both tantrums and separation anxiety.

is it licensed? If it's licensed it shouldn't matter. All child care providers have to follow the same regulations and training. If it's not licensed than that could mean the staff has no training and doesn't know what's normal or appropriate.

It doesn't sound like reasons to be kicked out. As for the clingyness - the daycare said it will get better with time - so it sounds like they aren't concerned.

As for the tantrums - it's very common at that age - my DS 2 has tantrums frequently and they tell me - but, it's more that they feel I should know.
