Kick Counts are lame

I had my 28 week appointment last night and the doctor told me that i need to start doing the kick counts three times a day! That sounds crazy! I work full time - how am i going to have time during the day to sit around and wait for kicks?!

plus LO doesn't move around THAT often so i don't know how i'm going to choose three different times each day! He usually moves after i eat, but not always!

I have a feeling the next few weeks will be full of "fantastic" visits to L&D to make sure everything's ok, and each time, everything will be ok. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

alright i'm done whining now .... i do understand that kick counts are really important but to me, it just feels like a test that will only result in hospital visits because LO isn't that active. (and NOW i'm really done whining ... sorry bout that Chat Icon)

Re: Kick Counts are lame

LO is usually active at the end of the day when I'm trying to relax, unwind and get ready for bed. During the day movements are sporadic but it's always been there. Unless we are so busy we are just missing it because we are preoccupied.

Kick Counts are lame

I was told not to do kick counts. Weird how OBs differ on this.

My ob has never had me do this either. He just asks if I'm feeling lots of movement I say yes and that's it.

Kick Counts are lame

My doctor never told me to do them. I notice my LO is active certain times of the day.

I dont do them either. My dr said its mainly up to me if I want too. He says as long as I am feeling the baby a decent amount during the day then not to worry. But he also said that if its been a slow day to drink water lay down and relax and do kick counts then.

My doc has never mentioned doing them. When I asked him about tracking movement, he said you just need to take note of your baby's pattern of movement, and if anything feels off from that, then *perhaps* it would be a cause for concern.

I never had to do kick counts cause DS was constantly moving!

If you want to do them and need the baby to moove eat sugary stuff or drink cold water.

Kick Counts are lame

My doc said to do them but DS is so active that I don't really need to and if I do notice he isnt moving around that much I eat or drink something sugary and he's off and bouncing around

I don't think I counted kicks, but if I didn't feel DS kick I would do something to make him start kicking just to check if everything was ok.

Dr. never mentioned kick counts to me. My baby is very quiet during the day, I doubt I would feel him or her the reccomended # of times. But I know he or she is ok bc there's a party in my belly all night long!

I only had to do them when I felt decreased movements and thanks to them 2 needless trips to L&D happened. I had an anterior placenta and barely felt any movement! I'm with you. KICK COUNTS STINK!

Re: Kick Counts are lame

i never actually did "kick counts" but i did pay close attention to the amount my son moved around and did kick.

Thank god i did. It was because i payed such close attention to his movement, when he stopped moving as much at 26 weeks we knew something was wrong and i wound up delievering 2 days later..

This was obviously just my experiance but it was a scary one and one i would not want ANYONE to experiance!

Just keep a close eye on the amount of movement you generally feel from your LO.

Kick Counts are lame

The only time I did kick counts was when my body was in distress, I started bleeding or when my BP dropped and I almost fainted. Other than that my lil guy is really active.
