I test drove it and hated it. I hated the acceleration noise; it was loud.
Have you checked out Subaru Forrester? They are similar in size and really a great car. Excellent in the snow too! Everyone I know who owns one; LOVES IT! And they are actually cheaper than Sorrento.

I have one and love it. I don't find it too loud and it's pretty spacious too. There's a good bit more room in it than the Sportage which was a deciding factor for me. The only thing I would like is if the backseat moved back a bit since it's a bit tight even for my daughter who's still in a car seat. I heard the new model has that feature though so that would solve that issue. Anyway, I'm very happy with mine!

I've had one for almost 5 years now (I have a 2011 model) and I'm happy with it. At the time, I wasn't looking to spend too much and found I got the most for my money with all of the upgrades in the package like heated seats , backup camera, etc.

I had one for 3 years and was happy. I had the V6 and 3rd row. Only reason I gave it back offer the lease end is that I wanted to spend less per month so I got the CRV.
