Key West
DH and I are thinking about taking a trip. Any suggestions on where to stay? We'd like to be close to where all the bars and restaurants are.

Re: Key West
Try to stay on or as close to Duval Street as possible. I have stayed at the Ocean Key and the Southernmost Hotel. Ocean Key is beautiful and right by Mallory Square, but very expensive. Southernmost Hotel is at the other end of Duval and not quite as impressive as Ocean Key, but very nice and very reasonable for the location. You're going to have an awesome time!

Re: Key West
We've stayed at the Hilton (which is now the Westin I think) right next to Mallory Square, but we prefer staying at an inn or a b&b when down there. We stayed 2x at the curry mansion inn (on caroline, steps from duval) and it includes breakfast (pastries, cereals, omelettes, juice, coffee, etc.) and also a happy hour with free beer, wine, drinks, appetizers, and music). This April we're staying at the Eden House which looks quiet and beautiful. Have fun--you'll love it down there!! We do!!

Re: Key West
We stayed at a B&B on Duvall, it was very nice, right in the middle, The Tropical Inn.
If you don't know, Key West does not have "pretty" beaches like in on mainland Florida...it's very rocky. Also, if you have snorkeled before in other places and are going there to do that, you maybe a little disappointed b/c it's pretty much all "man made" and not natural reefs.
We did not know these things before we went, so we were a little disappointed when we got there.

Re: Key West
I really enjoyed my stay at the Wyndham Casa Marina - they have a big pool area and private beach. I am not sure if they still have it, but their breakfast buffet was excellent.
I am not too sure how far it is from Duval but it couldn't be more then a few minutes by car.

Re: Key West
We stayed at the Pier House - really enjoyed it! It is steps away from Mallory Square and totally walk able to restaurants and bars. It has a small private beach as well which most hotels there dont have!

Re: Key West
We are staying here when we go in March. Walking distance to all the good stuff but far enough away so it will be peaceful at night.
I love KW!! Can't wait to go back!

Re: Key West
we went to Key West for part of our honeymoon....looooved Key west!
We stayed at the Sheraton Hotel & Suites...it was GREAT! It's not on Duval but probably about a 3 minute drive. It's across the street from what they say is "the best beach on key west" (i have no idea if that's true but we enjoyed it! haha)
We wanted to stay at Casa Marina but they were under going renovations due to the hurricane, so I would look into that one as well.

Re: Key West
I used to live in Key West so here ar emy suggestions:
Cypress House...it is a bit pricey but they offer a nice deal from 5p-7p of all the alcohol/soft drinks/wine/apps you can eat drink by the pool, and that is a HUGE bargain because it is to go out. Duval is a quick 3 minute walk from here so you're close, but far enough away you can sleep without the noise. Casa Marina, and La Concha are nice but also $$ and not as worth it in my opinion.
Don't rent a car unless you plan to leave Key West, rent a scooter instead. The roads are very narrow, and the island is only 4miles x 2miles. EVERYBODY drives a scooter and it's much easier for parking!
Get a sloppy joe at Sloppy Joe's....silly I know but it is nice and not to expensive. I loved the Lazy Gecho(?). Prices are expensive for drinks, but it has an at home bar feeling.
PLEASE FM me if I can help!

I stayed here based on Christine's (and Merf's) recommendations a few years ago and it was fantastic. It is a 10 minute walk to mallory - which I truly enjoyed. 1. more space on a cramped key - private pool and beach. 2. I like to walk after a meal 3. it was quiet, which is tough to find on KW sometimes 4. we got to enjoy the art galleries at the end of duval
check out their website - they offer some great discounts for some memberships/trades.
