food is more expensive. so we are spending more and getting less on stuff like that.

airline prices are wayyy higher, so we may not be able to go on vacation this year (not b/c we don't have the money, but b/c I won't pay on PRINCIPAL! )

My job is fairly secure (and I don't get paid "market" salary anyway, since I am in govt)

dh has been with his firm for 10 years, so we don't forsee any employment issues.

just basically adjusting to the inflation of the food prices.

we are still forging ahead with our saving for the purchase of a house. we just don't go out (well, HE doesn't go out as much....I am still a work in progress. )

Well, just buying a new home last april, things are a little tight with gas, electric going much higher it made a little tight for the new home buyers. I also shop with coupons which i never did before, I can't believe how much i am saving

DH is in sales..sales are down..yes, we are feeling it. Also because I am spending more money since my parents moved back to LI.

I work in the real estate industry so my business is feeling it. But I have been taking as many precautions as I can with it. It's a cyclical business. You have to be able to endure the good along with the bad.

Our home life has not changed much. We save more now if anything. But it helps that my husband got a new job at the end of December that pays significantly higher than what he was making. That always helps. Plus his job is more stable than mine as the economy doesn't really play a role as it does in mine.

Our house has been on the market since July with no offers. We're asking a VERY reasonable price too... it's just the bad economy/housing market at work.

We haven't seen any major impact on our salaries YET... but my husband is an electrician and we are very concerned that come June he will be out of work. It is a scary proposition because overy 400 men in his union are currently out of work - some have been out of work for over a YEAR. So we have to be prepared for the idea that Rob might have to get a temporary job that pays far less than what he gets now... just to SURVIVE.

Actually, things are starting to look up a bit (for now) because of the new Tanger going up and many schools do their renovations over the summer...I'm scared about what's going to happen next winter- this winter was rough and I can only imagine that next year will be worse

I am not sure if it's the economy, or if it is also from being in grad school for so long, but we are feeling a tightening of expenses. DH is graduating in May and has yet to find a job. We don't eat out as much, or buy as many luxury items. I haven't bought any clothes since November and don't plan to until I find out that DH has a job in May. I'll just go with what I have otherwise. We spend less on groceries and I am super careful to not waste ANY food. We make use of everything we have. It's a conscious effort every day to try to spend less.

The only affect I have seen is related to work. My company isn't hiring to replace people as they leave which is making us all work harder. Plus bonuses and raises are going to be impacted.

In my personal life, I don't really feel the impact. We are trying to be more careful with our spending and I am using more coupons to buy things that are usually less expensive. But we are not financially hurting.

We've been preparing for my maternity leave anyway (partially unpaid), so we have been living a much more frugal lifestyle - eating out less, entertaining less. We bank all side business cash DH makes.

DH is also in a trade union (Iron Workers) and I'm worried what impact the looming recession will have on the building trades. Knock wood, it hasn't affected us yet and DH also does plumbing on the side, but it still makes me nervous.

it hasn't effected us yet ( besides food and gas), but we are both in the finance industry. Since the economy is not stable we will be staying in our coop, our original plan was to sell and buy a home. THose plans are being put on hold for a while. if one of us lose our job now, no biggie, but If we bought a home that would be a huge problem. we also need a new car and planned to get this spring, but now we might wait until the fall. I think vacation for this year is out as well. we had a lot of plans for this year since baby is on the way, but it's not a good time for us to make big purchases esp bc baby on the way. better safe than sorry!

It is starting to affect us and we are trying to be careful about how spend. We have to pay down our debt if we want to get a new house ever. Gas and food prices are going up and I am starting to worry about DH losing his job. He works for an ad firm and it on the BMW account. BMW is not doing well. I keep begging him to try and spread his services onto other accounts for a little more job security. Seriously we lose our house fast if he lost his job. And he has only been there one year and probably wouldn't get any kind of package.

My dad started his own bussiness installing home theatre's, alarms, tv, surround sound. ect. It is getting hard for him too.

It hasn't affected us yet. Both our jobs are stable, so that's positive.

However, we made some big purchases late last year and went on vacation in Jan. We used savings (not credit) but now I wish we hadn't spent so much on things that were not necessary, they were just luxuries.

We both have revamped our budgets and we are going to try to stick to them. We are trying to hoard as much cash as possible so that if the economy does negatively affect us, we will be prepared.

We are also hoping to buy an apartment next year when our lease it up.

Day to day though - food and gas prices are through the roof. We fill up whenever we are Jersey to save some $$$ and I buy things that are on sale now when I am grocery shopping.

Honestly for us it is pretty simple - we don't live beyond our means. We don't waste and we buy most things on sale. We cut coupons. I would do that regardless of the economy. Just because one has money now, doesnt mean it wont bite you in the a$$ int he future if you spend foolishly.
