Just thought I would update...
So we haven't recieved a closing date for sure yet. Originally it was Dec. 20, then it was Dec. 28th and we would be able to move in before New Years...blah blah blah...
We rented out condo out as of January 1st based on these plans that up until lsat week were still ready to go...
THEN our seller's told us they couldnt be out until January 10...which would leave us homeless with two puppies. So my in laws graciously said we could stay there until we moved in on the 10th. Dec. 23rd they tell us it wont be until at least Jan 21st...I just can't take it anymore. So now we are all packed up...rented a pod and are staying with my in laws until these stupid people get out. Legally, they can do this but I feel like have some sort of a conscience since YOU made these arrangements and we rented based on them. SO frustrating.
We didn't set up a tree, have had boxes all over the place, and have been miserable...we droeve past the house the other day just to make ourselves feel better and like it will be worth it and ithey were all decorated for christmas, (the door was open so we saw the tree..) it just made us so angry. Like, I'm glad YOU are enjoying your holiday while we are miserable because of you! 
Oh well..just thought I would update...keep your fingers crossed that they vacate soon and we get some sort of compensation!

Did your contract have an "on or about" date listed for the closing? If so, they have up to 30 days beyond that, then you can legally force the closing. Our date was Feb. 28, and when we approached the end of March and they were still dragging their feet our lawyer sent them a letter saying that we would set the closing date for April 15, and if they did not appear to close we would file a lawsuit. We eventually agreed to set a closing for April 28 so they could get into the apartment they finally rented after we threatened the lawsuit.

Sucks but at least you found a place to stay! Its frustrating but soon enough, you'll be in your house! Also, look at the bright side, ya get to save $$ for another month!

So frustrating! I am hoping it is soon for you! Im in a similar boat...but we are waiting for the bank..they keep saying 24 hours 24 hourss\ blah blah blah
Luckily my renter isn't moving in until the end of jan but I am 31 weeks pregnant with twins and really want to get in my house soon!!!!

Glad you have a place to stay and it will be worth it in the end.

So sorry you are going through this. It will all be worth it in the end.
We went through something similar with our first house, so when we drew up the contract for our second house - we let the sellers set the closing date, but then made it really expensive for them to stay beyond that date without good reason... Something to keep in mind if you ever go through this again.
