Just got back from the doctor....
and my sono looked good. My uterine lining thinned out well andif my blood work comes back okay, I can begin injections tonight The nurse said I would most likely be using the gonal-f pen (she wasn't sure of the exact protocol and had to wait to speak to the doctor). She is going to call in my rx to the RVC pharmacy, and my meds should be delivered for tonight. I am extremely nervous and am praying that I can do this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated PS - Do the injections have to be given at the exact same time every night?

Re: Just got back from the doctor....
I used the Gonal-F pen for our round of injectibles last month. DH gave me the shots. They tell you to do them about the same time every day which worked out well for us. We did it when we came home from work.

Yep, you should take it about the same time every night. The pen makes it so much easier to do. I'm glad you are using it.
Good luck!!!

Re: Just got back from the doctor....
I am starting injectables (Folistim) tonight too. I'm also a little nervous, but everyone I asked said the anticipation is worse than actually doing it.
Good Luck and keep us posted on how it goes.

Re: Just got back from the doctor....
I wrote you this whole long post before w/ tips for you... but somehow it never posted
I'm getting ready to run out the door but I'll post my 'summary' FM me if you have any questions
- Ice the area w/ an ice pack for a few mins first (I do about 5 mins) - either sit down or lay down on your bed w/ your back up against the headboard (the first night I stood up and when my DH came towards me I panicked and jumped away and the needle scratched my belly!) - if you have any 'fluff' in your tummy area (like i do ), i usually pinch a little of my belly fat to give DH a target area. - prep the area with a rubbing alcohol prep pad. (either let it air dry or I usually dab a sterile gauze pad on it to dry it up quicker so the area doesn't warm up while you're waiting for it to dry)l - inject the pen straight in (no angle at all) and press the pen until all of the clicks are done. (let it stay in at least 5 more seconds before pulling it out) - put gauze on the area... and you're done
HTH!!

So true, the actual anticipation is so much worse.
I did the pen this morning. Oh, setting up the pen is when I freaked out. You set the dial for 37.5 for prep. You pull out the end, and press into the air. If nothing comes out (dont' panic like I did), it always takes 2 preps for me to get some meds into the air. First time I did it, I didnt know I could prep again when nothing came out. That sent me over the edge. and they put extra in the pen for this. I think the pens are 900u and the actual is 1080u.
I have never iced the area and I've been fine. But, I think I have thick skin or something. I usually dont' feel anything. Though afterwards I always get a weird med taste in my mouth that goes away in 5 seconds. I used to think it made me tired but I think it was the pressure of doing shots that made me tired. After 4 cycles and now on my 5th nothing phases me.

Re: Just got back from the doctor....
I have done 2 cycles with Follistim and the injections are no big deal. Be sure that you are being monitored closely for OHSS and that your estrogen doesn't shoot up to fast. GL!
