Just curious what you'd do...

Note: Please base your answer on if you were not superstitious.....

If you took your niece to a children's clothing store that was going out of business and bought her 2 of the 3 MOST beautiful dresses you've EVER seen.... one was $250 to start and one was $300---- I bought them for $50 each. (This is just background info, not what I'm curious about)....

If you FELL IN LOVE with a christening gown, that could be used for either a boy or a girl--- would you buy it, knowing that you're not pg yet, but hoping you would be someday...???

It's the type I wanted to buy my niece when she was being christened (I am her godmother) but it was over $300 at the outlets, and I couldn't afford it- and wouldn't justify it b/c I though ti would be silly since she'd only wear it once Chat Icon

Anyway, I didn't buy it... because, well, I don't know why. Honestly I think b/c my dad was w/ me and DH and I didn't know what they'd think... but I've been thinking about it since I walked out of the store. Chat Icon And now it's 2 hours away from where I live but I called them and they will be open Monday- when my dad is in there next... WWYD? (I asked them to hold it but they won't so there's a chance it won't be there but WWYD if it was there come monday?)

I don't know. I don't think I would have bought it either. Not because I'm supersitious but because I kind of the same as I did before I got engaged - that I didn't belong to the "club" so I shouldn't buy anything related to the topic (so I didn't buy bridal magazines or anything before getting engaged even though I knew it was coming.)
I haven't bought one baby item for this reason. I don't even look at baby items for this reason either. I just can't relate to it yet.

If you keep thinking about it, then maybe you should get it! I would just have someone else is the family keep it at their house until you officially need it for yourself someday really soon!! Chat Icon But at least you know you would have it and it would be yours!!!!

Re: Just curious what you'd do...

I was buying baby gifts for DH's cousin a few weeks ago and stumbled upon a baby blanket with the logo of DH's favorite baseball team. It was perfect and the blanket was on clearance for fifty cents.

I didn't buy it.

What I imagined happening if I had bought it:
DH would find it and get sad and think I'm crazier than I am. Every time I would clean the closets, I'd see it and eventually, I'd have to throw it away (assuming it never got proper use!). If DH and I were hit by a bus and my mother had to empty our closets after we were dead, she'd see it and get even sadder.

ITA. I had baby things I bought and my mom bought sitting in the closet for years. I'm not going to lie...there were times I got really depressed and wanted to throw them out but now that DD is here I have actually used them. When I look at them I'm reminded of how blessed I am and how much she was truly wanted for so long.

No way - I would not buy it. Superstition or not - I would not want to be looking at any of those items to nudge me forever

I will not buy anything baby related until I am PG and well into the pregnancy. This has nothing to do with religious or superstitious things.

Im a superstitious one. I would not have purchased it. I assure you that when its time, you will find something else that will be equally as meaningful and special to you.

Re: Just curious what you'd do...

Thanks everyone. I haven't decided what I'd do yet. DH and I both are not at all superstitious, so I knew that wouldn't play a role.
I have picked up things thru the years... and they're all in my spare bedroom. tucked away in a box where I won't see them unless I dug them out... They don't make me sad at all. I very rarely look at them, and when I do they make me smile and make me hopeful that I was THAT certain that we will someday have kids that I went ahead and bought them..so in the event that I'm having a bad day and 2nd guessing myself- it kind of snaps me out of that feeling of hopelessness.

If it worked out that we didn't have kids, then I would have special outfits for my friend's children. They are free game right now- not 'my kids' - KWIM? I mentioned it to my mom and showed her the photo that I took on my phone and she took it upon herself to call my dad to have him go buy it, but he had already left. So we'll see what Monday brings, I'll have to think on it a little longer..... and see if it's still there.

I'm probably in the minority here but I had both boy and girl clothes that I bought while I was still trying for my DS- Not sure if its because I'm a shop-a-holic Chat Icon or because in my heart of hearts I just believed that I would have a little one to put in them one day..And believe it or not, I do tend to be a little bit supertitious...Its whatever you feel Chat Icon !

I would not buy it. Like someone else said you will find something equally meaningful when the time comes.

This is me, too. I've bought a ton of things for "the baby" over the years. Mostly because I worked at BRU, and people would return things that would then be marked down for like, $1 and I'd snatch them up.

I also recently bought a bib that was just too perfect and I knew I'd never find anything like it again: It says "I'm so cute, I must be Irish AND Puerto Rican!" I mean, come on! When will I ever see that again?

I say, if you love it that much, go back for it and keep it in a special place for when the time comes--because the time WILL come! Chat Icon

I agree!

ETA: I haven't read it so correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn'The Secret advise to act as if ytou already have what you want, in order to get what you want. I think, if anything, you'd be inviting the Universe to send you the blessing of a child
