Just an FYI!

This is really an eye opener.... Water or Coke? We all know that water is important but I've never seen it written down like this before.

WATER

1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.

2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.

3. Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as 3%.

4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.

5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

And now for the properties of COKE:

1. In many states (in the USA) the highway patrol carries two gallons of coke in the truck to remove blood from the highway after a car accident.

2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of coke and it will be gone in two days.

3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola in! to the toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean. The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous China.

4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers: Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.

6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Applying a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake. Thirty minutes before the ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.

8. To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains.

9. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.

For Your Info:

1. The active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid. Its pH is 2.8. It will dissolve a nail in about 4 days. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis.

2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck must use the Hazardous material place cards reserved for Highly corrosive materials.

3. The distributors of coke have been using it to clean the engines of their trucks for about 20 years!

Now the question is, would you like a coke or a glass of water?

Have A Great Day and Share It With Others

Hey Ron - are you spreading internet myths on your site now!!!???Chat Icon Chat Icon
Though, water IS always better!!Chat Icon

Found this on Snopes source

Claim: The acids in Coca-Cola make it harmful to drink.

Status: False.

Origins: Many
of the entries above are just simple household tips involving Coca-Cola, as provided by Joey Green in his 1995 book Polish Your Furniture with Panty Hose and on his web site. That you can cook and clean with Coke is relatively meaningless from a safety standpoint — you can use a wide array of common household substances (including water) for the same purposes; that fact alone doesn't necessarily make them dangerous to ingest. Nearly all carbonated soft drinks contain carbonic acid, which is moderately useful for tasks such as removing stains and dissolving rust deposits (although plain soda water is much better for some of these purposes than Coca-Cola or other soft drinks, as it doesn't leave a sticky sugar residue behind). Carbonic acid is relatively weak, however, and people have been drinking carbonated water for many years with no detrimental effects.

The rest of the claims offered here are specious. Coca-Cola does contain small amounts of citric acid and phosphoric acid; however, all the insinuations about the dangers these acids might pose to people who drink Coca-Cola ignore a simple concept familiar to any first-year chemistry student: concentration. Coca-Cola contains less citric acid than orange juice does, and the concentration of phosphoric acid in Coke is far too small (a mere 11 to 13 grams per gallon of syrup, or about 0.20 to 0.30 per cent of the total formula) to dissolve a steak, a tooth, or a nail overnight. (Much of the item will dissolve eventually, but after a day or two you'll still have most of the tooth, a whole nail, and one very soggy t-bone.)

Besides, the gastric acid in your stomach is much stronger than any of the acids in Coca-Cola, so the Coca-Cola is harmless.

The next time you're stopped by a highway patrolman, try asking him if he's ever scrubbed blood stains off a highway with Coca-Cola (or anything else). If you're lucky, by the time he stops laughing he'll have forgotten about the citation he was going to give you.

Re: Just an FYI!

Regardless of the above post Coke is still very unhealthy. It contains high fructose corn sysrup as a sweetner which bypasses the liver and goes directly to the fat cells in the body.

Yes, it does dehydrate you and the diet versions are potentially a lot worse. We don't have long range studies on the effects of all of these artificial chemicals put in these drinks and saccarine has been known to cause cancer in laboratory animals. Yes, I know they give the animals incredibly high doses but don't you know people who drink the equivalent of more than a two liter bottle of soda a day.

That said, our water is not perfect either. Our air pollution (and continually reliance on fossil fuels) contributes to water pollution as well. Water is always better (although it should be filtered) as it is present in our bodies.

DH and I haven't drank soda in years and we never have it in the house, yes, even for company. We always have water, decaf and caf versions of tea and coffee and natural fruit juices, not punches because they contain many of the same aritificial ingredients as soda.

ETA: for spelling

Re: Just an FYI!

There was an artcile today about the EPA study on water. NY was in the top 10 states for contaminated water.

I drink a lot of water about 32 oz per day- but its all bottled.

Here is the article:

U.S. Drinking Water Laced With Unregulated Chemicals: Report

Drinking water in the United States contains 141 unregulated chemicals, and 119 others for which the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has set health-based limits, says a report released by the Environmental Working Group.

The findings are based on an analysis of drinking water records in 42 states between 1998 and 2003. The data cover nearly 40,000 water utilities that serve about 231 million people, the Associated Press reported.

Disinfection byproducts, nitrates, chloroform, barium, arsenic and copper were the most common chemicals found in the water. The Environmental Working Group said the report, released Tuesday, shows that millions of people are exposed to chemicals that have no enforceable limits or that haven't been assessed for human health risk.

"So in many communities, the water that comes out of the tap could be contaminated with scores of chemicals. People shouldn't be alarmed, but they should be concerned. Our system of public health protections isn't working in this case," Jane Houlihan, the group's vice president of research, told the AP.

The biggest sources of these chemicals are agriculture, industry and urban and sprawl developments, the report said. Listed in order of the most contaminants in their drinking water, the 10 states were: California, Wisconsin, Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, Texas, New York, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Illinois.

Would you believe this was sent to me by my doctor? Well, it was!

I thought some of the coke claims were a bit much but what it says about water is something we should all take into consideration. Don't you agree? I was once told that if you are thirsty you are already dehydrated. So, I'm going to move the company water cooler next to my desk. Right next to the company wine rack! Chat Icon

Absolutely. That's why I said Water IS always better (well, guess if it was really polluted water, probably wouldn't be). But just pointing out that a lot of these claims are just silly! Chat Icon

LI water can be especially bad - because the drinking water comes from groundwater - whatever leaches in can potentially be in the drinking water.

I don't know if all the coke claims are true or not, but I do know that after reading one of the threads on here, I used a can of Coke to clear the drain in my tub and it worked! DH and I have been drinking a lot less soda since that day. Chat Icon
