Uh... well, the story doesn't end too happily. He was good as far as training and obediency. He was very smart. He ate the house, but still. He was very playful and loveable, but he was not good around children at all. It's the chow in the line that does that, I'm sure. So just be careful with that. I didn't want to bring it up but... he bit my 5 yr old cousin on the face (only time he EVER bit and it was COMPLETELY UNPROVOKED) and we had to get rid of him . She was scarred for life.

They said that Chows are like that. Chows are a one person dog. And by the time they turn 5 they are very protective. They gave us some ideas of what to do with him as far as socializing him and stuff. I was kinda hoping that the retriever would fix that

he is SUCH a cutie!
And like Red said, he's going to love his crate. Gizmo is SO protective of his crate! Sometimes, even when everyone is home, he cries to go IN!  silly dog.

My Friend had a chow. She was definetly protective. She did go after someone once. She was nice to me. But I kinda stayed out of her way
We got him from a shelter and the lady said he might not even have chow in him he might be shepeard. My cousins have a german shepeard and rudy looks like him (his nose and black tip on his tail and also he has some black hair on his back like my cousins) I see more shepeard then Chow.
They said when you take him out for walks ask people to pet him and socialize him a lot.

The socializing will definitely help. I believe with dogs it has alot to do with the raising. Is his tongue purple? If not, he probably doesn't have alot of the major chow traits anyway.
