with the exception of last year we go every yr and get there by 8:30am the latest, the parking lots are usually pretty packed by then, but you can still get a decent parkign spot and beach spot. Never hit too bad traffic either.

I find it easier to take ocean parkway east home to robert moses causeway to sunrise highway...then the wantagh way.
