Jewish mamas bris/circumcision question.
So, I am Jewish and always knew I would raise my kids as such, my husband is kinda Jewish, long story on that, he has a bris, that was botched and had to have surgery to repair it when he was a baby. He has no problem raising our son Jewish but he wants the actual circumcision done in the hospital and then wants to have a ceremony after, similar I guess to a baby naming you would have for a girl.
Has anyone done this or heard of this? I am due in December so we still have time to work out logistics.

Jewish mamas bris/circumcision question.
I've heard of it..my friends just did it but their circumstances were a bit different..they had a death in the family the day before the baby was born so they felt funny doing a bris during mourning and did a naming later on..I have the name of an AMAZING mohel who is a pediatrician, if that helps..you can FM if you want..

Re: Jewish mamas bris/circumcision question.
I would use a mohel who is also a dr, there are lots of them. My ob is one, I can fm you his info. I personally, would rather a dr who was a mohel than a resident or whoever In the hospital. I know some people do the circumcision in the hospital and have a naming after and that's is their choice but "jewishly" speaking, it's not a Bris or the same religious significance of a bris so if that's important to you it's something to consider.

Re: Jewish mamas bris/circumcision question.
We used Cantor Sherman and my DS circumcision healed really well. We to pediatrician 2 days later for a weight check and he said circumcision looked great. Some mohel's may not do ceremony if circumcision was done in hospital. I've also heard of some mohel's who are MDs, like a pp said. IMHO, if you get someone good, it is quick and my DS did fine. I was more nervous!

Re: Jewish mamas bris/circumcision question.
I totally understand your concern. I too wanted a mohel who is also a doctor. Wound up using a mohel that has a long history of doing a great job. Rabbi Paysach Krohn. No, he's not a doctor, but has been doing this for many, many years. Even did my DH. No complaints here. He also was the mohel for some friends. He was great, funny and of course was fine with the baby. My pediatrician said he did a great job. He did both boys.
Here's the site if you want to consider it. I have heard better stories done by a mohel than in a hospital. JMO

we used him as well and had a great experience (although DH watched the actual circumcision and is scared for life but thats besides the point). there are mohels that are MDs so that is an option. but to your main question, yes i have heart of people doing that...circumcise in hospital and have a naming ceremony at home.

Cantor Sherman performed my son's bris, too. If we ever have another son, we will use him again. He's truly the best mohel I've ever seen.
Honestly, a bris in the hospital doesn't ensure that it's done properly. An experienced mohel-performed bris is typically much faster than one in the hospital, too. Check out Cantor Sherman's website as it answers a lot of questions.

Hope you don't mind my input, I not Jewish but the md who did my boys' circumcision at north shore is a very well respected mohel. His name is Harvey Marchbein. I was a nervous wreck and on the fence about circumcision but everyone there including my ob assured me he was the absolute best - a real scholar on circumcision. I have triplet boys and he did three great jobs! Here is his website. http://www.moheldoc.com
