jewelry appraisal
Anyone have any recommendation as to where to go to get some estate jewelry appraised? Do they charge? If so, how much? I would like to get some of the pieces turned into something else. Idk why but I would feel HORRIBLE taking my stepdads pieces and just trading them for cash, they were his. They are manly though and I would like to get some of the pieces turned into something else, sort of like something to wear everyday to remind me of him. Can this be done? Is this expensive?

Try Good Old Good in Massapequa. They work a lot w/antique things and they have a person on site for jewelry design and repair so Im guessing they could talk to you about making them into something else. I had them fix my engagement ring and it was nice having them do it right while I wait.

Re: jewelry appraisal
For an appraisal, try the Jewelry Judge They've done a few appraisals for us and we've been very happy with them. They do charge a percentage of what the appraised value is, maybe its 1%? I don't remember. They can also recommend a jewelry store if you need one to work with antique pieces or to just rework something for you.

I've heard of them and I really should be getting there to have my mother's ring appraised soon- been putting it off for some reason.
