jewelry appraisal - how much $$?
Does anyone know how much it cost to have jewelry appraised?
I have a few pieces that I want to get recent appraisals on (my e-ring, my grandmother's e-ring, diamond bracelet, etc) so I can update my insurance.
I called the Jewelry Judge in GC - he charges $250/hr and he can do 4-5 pieces in that time.
I have no idea if thats a good price, or if I should just go to a local jeweler.

$250 for 4 or 5 pieces sounds about right - pretty reasonable actually. just make sure this price includes a dossier

so sorry to hijack ,but When they appraise your jewelery do they do it in front of you or do you have to leave it w them?

I think he had per carat prices as well, but since I was looking to do a few pieces, they quoted me per hour.
