I've seen FAs have to yell at people a lot. I do feel bad they are so disrespected. When people act like DBs to FAs I want to beat the piss out of them myself!

I agree.

I don't get why passengers have to be such a PITA. I was on one flight that had landed but we were still on the tarmac and a woman got up to get her stuff. The flight crew is making an announcement that we are to remain seated until we get to the gate. Repeatedly. They say the plane will sit there until everyone is in their seats. The lady is still standing. So one of the passengers tells her to sit down so we can all get off the plane sooner. And she freaks out about how she'll stand if she wants blah blah blah.

And on another flight the FA asked the passenger sitting next to me to turn off her kindle. The passenger explained that it's not wi-fi. The FA said if it has an on/off switch, it must be off. The passeger still wouldn't turn it off until the FA had to say "It's an FAA REGULATION....we can not take off until you turn off your kindle." Really? She had to play the FAA card? It's not new that electronics need to be turned off. The kicker? The lady slept for the entire flight she didn't read one page after we took off. Chat Icon

Travelling is not really fun and I don't understand why people have to make it even more miserable for everyone around them and think that rules in place for safety don't apply to them.

I can totally relate to this guy. While I think his loss of control was entirely inappropriate I cannot tell you how many times I have fantasized about speaking my true mind to my "customers" but have so far thankfully held my tongue. I don't think he endangered the passengers and maybe this may have been the better alternative to a physical altercation. People can be incredibly rude and filled with entitlement and probably treated him like dirt.

Sure he should be reprimanded, he did bad, but criminal charges? Of course not!

Really--these stories blow my mind, There should be no negotiation. If you'll "stand if you want to" or talk back to those charged with protecting us, you should be taken into custody and treated like a criminal just like anyone else who flagrantly disobeys law enforcement.

Geesh.

Seriously, these people should be charged and prosecuted and have to explain to their bosses and families why they have records--because they have no regard for the law and an unchecked sense of entitlement.

1 arrogant turd with no respect or regard for anyone (or everyone) else. 140 witnesses. Open and shut. The end.

I was a ground agent at JFK and people can be mean. I had a drunk business class passenger who made me cry. IMO business class were the worst to deal with. I can only imagine what it's like to be trapped in a small space with them.

If only the FA could have had the guy arrested or banned by the FAA rather than ruining his own career.

FWIW - I was a waitress for 5 years as well...I never spit or did anything bad to anyone's meals no matter how awful they were.

"The official said the passenger hit Slater in the head with his luggage and, when the passenger refused to apologize, Slater used the plane's public address system to utter an oath and say he's "had it.""

For this- the passenger should be charged with assault. How is it OK for the passenger to hit the attendant???? (assuming it wasn't an accident)

I swear, people have no respect. Good for him! While it was unprofessional, no one was hurt and maybe people will learn how to treat others with respect from this incident.

I think the best part was that when the cops came to arrest him, he was having sex! Good for him!!!

I just don't understand why this guy is a 'hero' to people. he obviously lost his cool and should lose his job. I don't think he should go to jail though.

ok, we've all wanted to yell and go off at someone at work, and i know flight attendants have to deal with some really nasty people..
but it doesn't mean he should be put up on a pedestal for what he did
he could've seriously hurt someone by opening the door and activating the safety chute - what if there was a vehicle or person out there that got hit? Of all people, he should know how dangerous that was.

Where was his sense of responsibility for the other passengers who were waiting to exit?

Imagine if the tables were turned and this guy was an LIRR conductor who opened an emergency exit while the train was stopped at a station and yelled at people over the PA, and then took off.
no one would think he was a hero, he'd be vilified in the press for going crazy and everyone would demand he be put in jail for causing delays.

Personally, i think the passenger is the one who should've been arrested for being an azz in the first place

I agree with you.

Yes, there's a lot to joke about here but this guy is hardly a hero. He broke laws and endangered the people on the plane and on the runway.

I think the whole 'hero' thing is more of a joke. No one's saying he's a hero like Captain Sullenberger who safely landed a plane in the Hudson River. I think he's more of a hero along the lines of Bud Light's "Real American Heros"

This guy is awesome. I hope his fall back career as a young Ron Howard works out for him.

LMAO!!!!

Yeah, working with the public, I can definitely understand where he was coming from. I have moments where I just want to snap, that's for sure! And the behavior of people in general everday that I deal with is more shocking than what this guy did! lol!

Love Love Love this story.... Its about time! Some peopleare so ignorant, rude and think the world revolves around them. I can never understand why people always stand up right away... as if your getting off the plane any faster! I would rather sit in my seat and be comfortable until they open the door and the rows in front of me start to move. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have to say, I was more on board with this guy (no pun intended) at the beginning- it sounded like he'd had all he could take, and I get that. But now it sounds like NO ONE is corroborating his story- 90 people were interviewed and no one saw him get hit? Chat Icon I'd think at least a couple people would have seen this happen. I'm wondering if it was staged.
