Jehovas Witnesses

Why must you come knocking on my door on a Sunday when I am coloring with my kids and try to give me information about the fact that people using God as a reason for war and such is a bad thing, duh. I don't try to convert them to my religion, why must you bother me? If I wanted something different than my faith or lack there of I would weigh my options but until then don't ring my door bell and make a 7 year old ask me to read a pamphlet.

IMO, its their religion, its what they do. You don't have to answer the door. I don't open the door for any strangers. (7 yr old or not)

They're not soliciting. They're preaching. Spreading the Good News in accordance with the Bible.

I agree with Shorty, you don't have to answer the door.

ETA: And they don't "make" anyone do anything. Children that go preaching actually enjoy spreading the Word. Believe it or not.

Well said, I can't stand that. They have the right to their religion like everyone else, but don't come preaching your religion at MY home, especially on a Sunday which is MY day of faith!!!Chat Icon

edited to say: If they enjoy preaching so much, they need to stick to preaching at their church. If I wanted to be preached to, then I would head over to their church, now wouldn't i?

Re: Jehovas Witnesses

It's what they do - its a part of their religion.

I'm sure people get annoyed at all of the people that park on the street outside the catholic church every sunday, too.

Bottom line, people are always going to do what they believe in, and people will always be annoyed about something.

I'm done!

They preach in accordance to the Bible...which mandates that they preach to everyone...and the world at large in normal places. It's what they do.

I'm sure it annoys people, but just like mormons and evangelicals, it's what they do.

ditto. Im catholic and though i as a good one should teach others of my religion, its not required per say.
THIS IS CENTRAL FOR THE JEHOHAH WITNESSES. AND I APPLAUD THEM FOR DOING IT EVEN THOUGH MANY PEOPLE MAKE FUN OF THEM AND CALL THEM "ANNOYING"

Jesus said before Pontius Pilate: "For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth." He is called "the faithful and true witness." (John 18:37; Revelation 3:14) Jesus told his disciples: "You will receive power when the holy spirit arrives upon you, and you will be witnesses of me both in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the most distant part of the earth."—Acts 1:8.

Hence, some 6,000,000 persons today who are telling the good news of Jehovah's Kingdom by Christ Jesus in over 230 lands feel that they properly refer to themselves as Jehovah's Witnesses.

this is much...Its not soliciting, its preaching...

Is it annoying yes....will they stop , of course not, its their lifes beliefs.

I hate when they come to my house, so I dont open the door....But I dont fault them for doing what they believe is their duty in life.

Have a little bit of patience and understanding people.....They didnt mean to ruin " your perfect day"

Re: Jehovas Witnesses

in my case, I think I am a little bit annoyed because they were not asked in, they just opened the door and stood at the desk until someone came in. (only one girl was at the office at the time, but she was in her office so she did not see them)

But, when they said they are passing out info on behalf of the companies in the area...well....thats wrong. Please, don't pull the companies in the area in the mix.

If they did come to my door at home, I just would not answer it. I answer it for NOBODY, thats why I love the peephole!Chat Icon

To me it makes me feel like they are trying to sell me their religion. I saw two young girls with their parents doing this and I was pretty turned off. I also feel bad for the children. I remember when I was in school they couldn't stand up for the pledge and if it was someone birthday they had to leave the room. I just felt bad

It's not soliciting. Whatsoever. Not sure why the concept of preaching is so hard to comprehend. Chat Icon

Don't feel bad for the children. They take pride in doing this and actually enjoy it a LOT. They don't participate in gov't, so no, they don't pledge alleagiance or vote. And leaving the room for a birthday is a personal choice. Obviously, not everyone practices the same way. So let's not generalize and think that everyone is the same. No, they don't celebrate birthdays or holidays. But their reasoning is based on the Bible...it's not just "because".

Actually, according to the Bible, door to door preaching is what's asked of us.

Jesus told his followers to "make disciples of people of all the nations," and he set the example by "journeying from city to city and from village to village, preaching and declaring the good news of the kingdom of God." The apostle Paul taught in public places, in the marketplace, and from house to house. We follow their example. Other religions have acknowledged the Christian obligation to preach in public places and from house to house, although this is often left to a limited group of missionaries or clergy to fulfill.—Matthew 24:14; 28:19, 20; Luke 8:1; Acts 20:20.

And they don't send children because they know you'll open the door. That's such a blatantly presumptious statement. Again, believe it or not, children raised in that faith take pride in preaching and love spreading the "Good News".

I'm not sure why there's such a lack of tolerance for other religions...I'm with Donna. Chat Icon

And I'm with you. They are only doing what all Christian faiths are called to do and that is to preach the word of God. I've come to know one particular woman over the course of two years and I find her to be a very kind, loving individual. If you are not interested in what they have to say, either don't open your door or just tell them that you would rather not have a discussion with them. They will leave. They don't solicit and they don't send children to the door hoping that you will answer it. I have had, on one occasion, a child come to my door accompanied by two adults and I was amazed how, at such a young age, she was so knowledgable regarding her religion. These are good people only doing what they believe in. In this day and age, maybe it's not such a bad thing.

Re: Jehovas Witnesses

They never ask for money, I would much rather them knock and chat for 5 minutes politely then have to buy a 5.00 box of cookies from a girl scout.

Whenever I tell them I am Catholic, they don't try and push me into anything, just glad that I have a God.

im certainly NOT intolerant - in my family we have catholics, jews, and buddhists.

however - i DO feel that they are having a 7 year old to knock on the door because if two adults knock on your door you arent going to answer it.

and todays world is alot different than when the Apostles were around - im sure if they could have a website they would!

Re: Jehovas Witnesses

I work with a Jehovah's Witness and she explained that they feel it is their duty to spread the word. I have talked to her and by communication, I have found that they are not as drastic about things as I had originally believed. We don't share all of the same beliefs but we have a mutual respect for each other and our faiths.

Funny thing is that since I have worked with this woman, whenever a Jehovah's Witness comes to my door, I politely tell them that I have a friend who practices the same faith and gives me some literature. They are always pleasant and wish me a nice day.

Now, one complaint I did have was why they came preaching on a random Tuesday morning at 10:15. Even my coworker was surprised.
