J Lo on infertility
This is J Lo's response to rumors about her and marc having infertility treatments. Didn't people say that she was and north shore?
On the time it took to get pregnant:
Jennifer was asked specifically to "set the record straight about how challenging it was to conceive."
J: It was natural. We didn't do in vitro, which I know was reported. Everyone assumed that because we had twins. I wanted to have a baby, but I've always said exactly what I said all those years they asked us since we've been married: "Well, when are you guys gonna have some kids?" "When it happens naturally, I guess!" And that's when it happened. It was a surprise to us.
You start getting older, you think to yourself, maybe [having kids] isn't meant for me. I knew there was nothing wrong with me. I knew that I could. Deep down, I really wanted it badly.
M: It never even entered my mind that it would not happen.
J: Really?! Even after one year, two years, three years ... You know, you start thinking to yourself, "Well, maybe..."
M: No! When you think about it, you only have a small amount of time each month when you can. So you try, and you have twelve shots a year.
On finding out that she was, in fact, expecting:
J: I was in Portugal, performing and dancing my *** off...
M: We were on the phone, and I said, "Baby, I have a sense!"
J: I said, "You think I am?" because it had been so long. When I came back, I took a test. I couldn't believe it! I was like, "Can we get another test, please?"
I think I really got to a point where I was like, "This is not going to happen for me." [But the third test I took,] it was right there in my face. At that point I looked and I said, "Marc, could this be me?" I had tears in my eyes.
On finding out they were expecting two bundles of joy:
J: I was in denial until I went to the doctor [for a sonogram several weeks later] and she said, "Oh my God! There's one baby, see the heart beating? And there's the other one!" Marc started crying again, and I started giggling.
M: One person said, "Everything with you is a production!"
J: I knew twins ran in my family, and we always joked, "Who do you think is going to have the twins?" So, of course, all my sisters were like, "It's you, it's you!"
M: My grandfather was a twin, too.

I don't believe one word of what she said in this interview. It's too bad she can't come clean and become a spokesperson for IF like other "brave" celebs have done. I am disappointed in her.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one that thought her article was a bunch of garbage - she said some very inappropriate things... doesn't matter what her 'thoughts' are- she could've worded them in a more appropriate manner.

What's ridiculous is if she did have help getting pregnant, why does she have to be "brave" to admit it? Its nothing to be ashamed of. And it just pushes IF further under the rug than it already is.
There are so many misconceptions out there because of all these celebs getting pregnant in their late 30's and early 40's supposedly on their own.
I can't tell you how many people have told me I have youth on my side, I have plenty of time. I am 30, not 22. Yes I am young, but not in terms of reproduction and fertility.

Re: J Lo on infertility
I am really not sure if I believe her or not but i am thinking WHY would she lie?? Maybe she knew she had nothing wrong with her because she did all the tests to make sure. All I know is I never saw her at North Shore or at Columbia Presb (which is another story I heard) I could be wrong but I dont think she would flat out lie. Especially after she gave birth. What's the big deal on admitting having IF treatment? Maybe I am naive.

ITA! I too feel "disappointed" I was hoping she would become an advocate for couples dealing w/IF. IF is not something to be swept under the rug. While I am a relatively private person, I do not mind talking about our struggle to become parents, and how awful I think it is that many insurance carriers do not cover IF. Not that I think it will make a huge difference, but I have been on a letter writing campaign to my representatives about the importance of insurance coverage, especially for IVF.
okay.. I know waaaaaay off topic!
I just was hoping that if she really did go through IF treatments, she would open to talking about it, as it's such an important topic.

She might lie about it because of fear of what her fans would think of conceiving with fertility treatments. There are a lot of people out there that have negative thoughts about fertility treatments being unnatural and sacreligious. For the record, I am all for IF treatments and going through them myself.

Not to mention the fact that it took them three years to concieve, so whether they had treatment or not, there was some kind of IF issue.

Perhaps it's because IF treatments are forbidden by their religion - aren't they into scientology?

Just being honest here...I can't believe that so many people are ready to jump down her throat for not "fessing up" to have IVF.
Aside from the fact that she may actually ::GASP!!!:: be telling the TRUTH...who are we to judge her for not wanting to tell the world?
I, for one, am not planning on sharing my IF struggles with ANYONE besides my family and very closest friends. I think all of you, more than anyone, would be able to understand and respect that. Bottom line: It's NOBODY'S BUSINESS how I conceive my children!!
I just couldn't believe all of the condemning responses to this!

I think she wasn't honest either. However, I do not think she owes it to anyone to become an advocate or a crusader. She wanted her process private as many people do. She just wanted to be a mom.

I think the reason for the negative responses is because we all know how much of a struggle IF is and we also know how it is pushed under the rug by society. There are so many suffering, yet there is so little awareness. Why do you think we all get the comments like "just relax and it will happen," or "if so-and-so celebrity can get pregnant at 40, so can you." We need supporters out there, we need the issues to be spoken about. Having fertilty issues is nothing to be ashamed about. To have advocates like celebrities will only help our "cause." Its dispicable how many insurance companies don't cover IF treatments, but cover viagra. If she did in fact have IF issues, by not coming out in the open about it, she is just adding to the under the rug syndrome. And if she did in fact have IF issues, then her comments here are very innappropriate. She could have just said something to the effect of what you did - that how she concieved her children is a private matter.

I am with you on this. We all have our own journey. She is not obligated to fess up. How could we judge someone who wants to be private (if that's even the case) She is probably being truthful. just one other senario. She may have been on a break cycle and got pregnant naturally. How many of those have you heard?? I have heard dozens. Not everone has the desire to be advocates or spokes people. We all have different gifts to offer this world. I dont mean to sound la-di-da but I truly feel this way.

Re: J Lo on infertility
My thoughts - she owes nothing to the world of IFers to be our spokesperson and I can respect her desire or need for privacy when it comes to her reproduction. If she did undergo IVF, and this is how she chooses to handle it, personally, I would never do the same, but who am I to judge? Is it disappointing - of course. But, it's no one's role or responsibility to openly discuss their experiences with infertility and we shouldn't put that pressure on anyone.

Re: J Lo on infertility
I love this thread. It's stirring up some passionate feelings and opinions.
Whether or not J Lo is lying, I think the biggest crime a celebrity can commit is to mislead women into thinking that they get preggo naturally without help when in fact they did. Celebrities live their lives in the public eye and with that comes a level of responsibility to do some good with their celebrity. I applaud celebs like Marcia Cross who openly talked about her fertility treatments in People magazine. I can't tell you how many women believe they can wait until they are 40 to get pg because celebrities get pg in their 40's.

Re: J Lo on infertility
I don't care whether or not she wants to admit to having IF treatments. Or whether she actually did or didn't have IF treatments. None of that bothers me at all. It's all her business, not ours. What does bug me is her quote, which I posted above...
"I knew there was nothing wrong with me. I knew that I could."
Just poor phrasing if you ask me. I don't think there's anything "wrong" with me. She's just the perfect woman with perfect functioning parts, I take it, and the rest of us here are imperfect because there's "something wrong with us." How does she know that she could? How does she know that there was nothing "wrong?" Is there such a stigma on it? What does it mean? If there was something wrong, is she less of a woman for being unable to naturally conceive? It just brings up way too many thoughts in my mind, those words. And perhaps I'm a little too close to the issue and I'm reading a lot into this, but it pizzes me off just the same.

I agree with everything you wrote, Lauren. Maybe we are all reading too much into it because it hits so close to home for us.
She also said this after what you quoted: Deep down, I really wanted it badly.
Like all of us don't want it badly. Like wanting it badly will just make it happen naturally.
