IVF, What should we do?

Me and my wife are going through IVF. We are at the day 3 embryo growth. We have 2 of my own embryos and 5 donor sperm embryos. My embryos are grade 2 and 3, both 6 cell. The donor ones are grade 1 8 cell. We are in the military so we had to pay for IVF ourselves. Well we have been trying for couple years already and I am the one with the infertility problem. We are deciding on if whether we should use our own embroys or the donors sperm. We definately want to use our own since they are still grade 2 and 3. Please let me know what you all think, and we are brand new to this adventure.

i think it depends on if you can afford to do IVF again. in most cases i would say use the best quality embryos, but since only 2 are genetically yours, and they aren't the highest quality, id say if you can afford to do a frozen cycle with the donor sperm embryos then DEF give it a shot first with yours. i would imagine your priority is to have a baby that is genetically yours over having a baby as fast as possible. that being said give it a shot with your embies, assuming they survive to day 5 (which i am guessing you are doing a day 5 transfer or FET based on yesterday being day 3). i dont have first hand experience, but word on the street is that poor quality embryos make beautiful babies. good luck with whatever you choose!!!

Could you use 2 one yours and one the donor? Im the cover all your bases kind of person. worst case you have twins but you have a baby to call your own either way.
Good Luck its a hard decision. What did the RE recommend?

How many IVF cycles have you done? How many embryos is your RE willing to put back in? Are you ok with multiples? Would you consider selective reduction? After so many failed IVF attempts, my RE was willing to put back as many as 4-5 (depending on the quality of course). In your case, I would probably lean towards putting both of yours and one or two of the donor back.

Re: IVF, What should we do?

What would I do - depends on how many cycles I have done and how good my insurance coverage is/what I can afford.

If this was my first, second or even third cycle and I still had money to spare for another cycle, I would use embryos fertilized by my DH and freeze the embryos fertilized by the DS. If it failed and my RE told me the chances of DH's sperm working were slim to none then I would move further and do a FET with the DS embryos.

IMO..the bottom line is that you want a baby. The fact that you have even used a donor shows that. Weather the baby is genetically yours or not will not change how much you want, love and adore this child. They will be yours not matter what. WIth that being said...

If you cannot financially afford to do a FET after this cycle on the off chance that you do not get a BFP then I would transfer 2 of the best quality embryos first and see if they take, If that means "one thats yours genetically" and "one that is not" so be it... if you CAN AFFORD to do another cycle after this and you find that having a baby that is geneticaly yours is more important to you ( if it can work) then definitely transfer YOUR two best embryos and if it works GREAT!!! if it doesnt then do a FET with the donors...

Good Luck in your decision making --Im sure this is not an easy decision for you guys but try and look at the end result---and I hope that whatever you decide to do results in a BFP the first time!!!

hugs to you both!!!!!

Just wanted to say that many (most) REs will not put back embryos from a husband AND a donor during one transfer. They will often make you choose, and you can freeze the others. There's too much liability not knowing which embryos implanted.

IMO, I'd put back your embryos and freeze the donor ones. If the cycle fails, then you have the frozen donor ones to use for a FET.

I didnt know that they wouldnt implant both, Interesting. I was thinking along the lines of if a DS was used then having a baby either genetic or donor was the goal. If IVF funds are low, the family will love that baby as their own either way.

Having a baby is still the goal. And they will definitely fertilize eggs outside the body with both genetic and donor sperm in the same cycle. However, they will only transfer one, not both, at a time.
