IVF ladies...# follicles on first monitoring appointment after starting stims?
I've been on 450 Gonal F and 2 vials Menopur for 4 days now. This morning was my first monitoring sono/bw. (AMH .26)
My right ovary was "quiet"  and there were 4, maybe 5, starting on the left just shy of 1cm. I feel like there should be a lot more action going on no? How many follicles did everyone have on their first sono after starting injections? Does this mean 5 is all I'm going to get or is there time to develop more?
I'm trying not to be upset, but I feel like my chances are really low now

I have PCOS but my first monitoring appt I had 16 total follicles and the next day I had 30 so they can pop up pretty quickly. Dont get discouraged with the amount cause everyday it will change.

The first monitoring appt does not usually show a lot of activity - you're just getting started! I rarely had a lot on the first appt - and some times even two days before retrieval there weren't many measuring over 17 (which is the size my doc looked for if I rem correctly). But....for my two fresh cycles I ended up having 21 and 19 retrieved! A lot happens in those last 24-48 hours!
eta: Also, the purpose of monitoring is to observe the # and size, if your doc isn't satisfied with your response, he/she may increase your meds.

For both my cycles, there were very few (if any) measurable follicles.
Don;t stress it! At your next appointment, you should see some more growth!

I felt the same way. At my first sono after stimming Dr. only saw about 4 follies and I was really disappointed. 2 days later there was a huge difference they told me about 8-10 in each ovary ... towards the end of my sono's the dr told me i was in the high teens for each ovary. I had 28 eggies collected on retrieval day. Don't get discouraged!

If it makes you feel better my AMH is .08. I've been on meds since last Monday and I only have 4 follies growing- that will probably be my max.....remember its quality not quantity. I barely had one on my first monitoring appt.

whats going on now means nothing to your actual chances. i had NOTHING going on at my first monitoring appointment and i ended up with 18 eggies that all fertilized and my stim was only a day or two longer than usual. sometimes a stim can start off sluggish if you are coming off BCP, but dont worry, it can catch up quick!!you can read here if you want to see more details on how that cycle worked out! good luck!
