IVF Help
Hi Ladies, Typically I am a lurker - and I apologize for that. But I'm in need of some advice.
I have had 2 IUI's and my doctor from LIJ Center for Human Reproduction told me today that this month will be the last month we try an IUI and will move on to August IVF cycle if I'm not pregnant after this cycle. I have PCOS and only ovulate on clomid. DH has low motility but a very high sperm count.
Here are my questions: 1- Any NYC DOE teachers have IVF done? What were your out of pockets costs?
2- Anyone have any reviews on Center for human Reproduction IVF?
TIA! Baby dust to all!!!

Re: IVF Help
I am at LIJ now and I believe that I have the same coverage as you, empire nyship. I am doing an ivf cycle there this month. I did my first cycle with R/S of NY and never had to pay any copays. I was also there for over a year, had 5 iui's and never got pregnant. At LIJ, since they are not a center of excellence, I have to pay two copays per visit if I get blood and a sono done (which is the norm) so $40 a visit. I don't know what the cost will be when I get to egg retrieval/embryo transfer. I am using the meds from my first cycle which I got from Kraupner for a little over $200 and there was a ton of it, including a boatload of endometrin, clomid, menopur, ganirelix, follistim, novarel and estrace. Basically the NP got the max allowable for each med. My review so far is tough due to the fact that the RE is working out of an established gyn practice until his new facility is ready. I've had to wait up to 45 minutes for one visit but most average a 15 minute wait. I do know most of the nurses/techs from my year at R/S and I feel that they are great providers. This was my main reason for switching, plus I always see the same RE now. I think that this will be better as I felt that seeing a different RE each visit at R/S wasn't great for determining a cohesive plan to attack infertility. I hope this helps with your questions and I wish you the best of luck with getting pregnant.

Where is LIJ center for Human Repo?
Is that the same place as NSUH Center for Human Reproduction?

IVF Help
NSUH is the highest cost out of all the clinics. I work for the city so I have to pay 25% for IVF. For NSUH that would have cost me $7,000. The rest of the clinics are about $4,000 with the same coverage. NSUH has a mandatory $1,200 facility fee since its a hospital.
I did 4 IUI's there and the staff is good and you meet a dr. each time. Def shop around and see who will offer you the most for your money and who you are comfy with.

I am a LI teacher and have Empire insurance (not sure if it's the same as yours). But if it is the same I get $50K in lifetime coverage for IVF. That's a whole lotta IVF! LOL Hoping I won't need it all.

Re: IVF Help
Thanks for your advice ladies. I have loved my treatment there so far so I'm very hesitant to change. I have GHI and they said I will owe 25%. I'm a lite shocked that that comes out to 7,000 though :( Does anyone know if my Dh reinstates his empire insurance if that will cover my 25%? I know I'm lucky to have any coverage, but it's all so much! Also, anyone have Ivf success stories from there?

I'm floored that 25% comes to 7k. My 25% responsibility cost us $1350 for IVF (not at LIJ). Wow.

Re: IVF Help
I totally agree with Mama2b; North Shore is the highest out off all of them. For my fresh IVF cycle my copay was $2300(had 1 cycle) and each frozen cycle was $1000(did 3 cycles). I never got pregnant the year I was with them.
I switched to RS of NY and my only OOP was for anesthesia (which is discounted) $350 and for the storage of my embryos($300 a year). Other than that no copays.
FYI I used Dr Scholl at North Shore and my main reason for leaving was his refusal to change my protocol. He insisted on trying the same method and did not feel I should take baby aspirin or lovenox since I have a history clotting disorders. Very stubborn and old school.

Yes. They do have satellite locations such as Garden City and on Northern Blvd in Manhasset but for IVF transfers and retrievals it's NSUH Center for Human Rep.

What kind of insurance do you have? I am so fond of Dr. Chu at NS that I really don't want to switch, but I certainly can't afford $7,000. $2300 is much better, and I am not sure that amount would make me second guess staying. Any insight is appreciated. Thank you!!!

Are you thinking about switching? There are many of us who can recommend our REs. I just can't fathom 7k in co-insurance when most of us pay way less. In my case (and I have GHI) 7k would be 5 IVF cycles and there would be money left over.

DH does not want to switch bc we love our Dr. But 7,000?!?!
I guess I'm now open to recommendations lol. GHI is what I have too - where do you go?

Re: IVF Help
I have United Healthcare and you may want to check your GHI to see if they have a contract on file for accepting what the insurance pays and not billing you anything that is over the payout amount. When I was at NSUH they would bill me for whatever insurance didn't cover but at Rs of NY they just accept the amount the insurance pays with no additional bills coming to me.

Wow, that's a huge difference. I am so confused. I spoke to GHI and they said it's between the clinic and me how much I have to pay after insurance covers the 75%.
