IUI with no meds!

Hey girls,

were thinking of doing an IUI this week just waiting for the surge.

im not really sure how all of it works.

this is a very late cycle for me cd 21 with a 17 follie as of yesteday going in tomm to check again.
we got back DH's SA and his morp is 18% and mot is 2% but the normal count.

so my doc said give thre IUI a shot this month.

my ins doesnt cover any of this we were paying out of pocket. we decided to try once.
so should be wait till next month and i would be on meds or just go ahead and try now.
i did get pregnant once but ended with a d&c

If youre paying out of pocket i would say to wait and do it with meds next month. If you have to pay you might as well increase your chances.

Re: IUI with no meds!

i would just go for it. you have a good size follie and with meds theres always the chance that you will also only have one follie that size.

Re: IUI with no meds!

I would not pay for an unmedicated cycle OOP.

An IUI does not up the chances enough to spend the $$$.

If it will financially impact you greatly then wait and just Chat Icon

I, personally would wait and do a med/IUI cycle with an HcG trigger in order to increase my follies and monitoring

HOWEVER, if your hubby has sperm issues I would definaitely have him go see a Uriologist. Dr. Bruce Gilbert (516) 487-5455. HE IS AMAZING and SPECIALIZES in MI. Keep in mind (we learned after 4 years) just because your SA comes back "normal" doesnt mean there isnt a genetic abnormality. The SCSA test costs like $400 and Id spend that to make sure that IUI's would even work...after we got our results we were told we should have went STRAIGHT TO ICF/ICSI or considered donor. Had we known that in 2007 when we first started trying we would have saved ourselves 3 years of torture, heartache, losses and a LOT of $$$.

There is not much that can be done for morphology issues. Most doctors will put him on clomiphene, HMG and HCG injections, proxeed, testosterone,Vitamin E, Vitamin C, anti-oxidants, high-protein diets, hoemeopathic pills , ayurvedic churans and even consider varicocele surgery if they are flat headed but all these methods are not "fool-proof" and dont always work. They certainly will increase his count and motility though. (my hubby did this)

Before I'd shell out tons of $$$$ to dr.s I would explore your options and talk to people with similiar issues...come up with serval different plans and then go to the doctor and see what fits best with your budget, timing and pick their brain.

I have had 9 IUI's and currently on my 3rd IVF cycle. We were "unexplained" until recently when we did a SA (www.SCSA.com) on my husband and found out that although his count was normal and his motility and morphology are FINE that he has 30.7% DNA Fragmentation which is our issue. We can fertilize eggs but they do not last...

I would hate to see you go through several failed IUI's and spend all this $$$. If you go to the RE knowing what to ask, what tests to get done, they may be more aggressive with his and your cycle!

best of luck--hope this helps ...

Re: IUI with no meds!

I'm currently in the middle of my second unmedicated IUI cycle. We are also paying completely out of pocket.

The first one didn't work, which I expected. This time, we'll be using an HCG trigger.

I'm comfortable with it, based on our own issues, which have a lot more to do with my physical disability then any fertility issues. Both DH and I fall within the low normal range of things.

If we didn't save and have the $$$ for this. We'd be doing TI then medicated cycles.
