It's been less than 2 weeks of potty training and....

He is fully pee pee trained, lol!! I am so so proud of this little guy. He is 2 years 10 months, and for anyone following our story from way back, a kid with some special needs (doing fabulously though!!).

He tells me when he has to go, he holds it and has not had an accident in 4 days. He even started summer school and is gone from me 5 hours/day and uses the potty at school and has had NO accidents there!!!

I am just truly amazed. It was a hard first few days but so so worth it!!!!!!

**Wanted to add....I do know a lot of people stop training in the beginning b/c they say their child isn't ready yet...and that might be true for some, but I honestly believe that you need to get past the first few hard days and then it starts to "click". Especially with boys, they usually need a little extra pushing, lol.

Next step?? Getting him to poop on the potty. Hasn't happened. He is terrified. He goes at night in his pullup after we put him to bed. Poor kid. But so far I am thrilled with what he has done. Just wanted to share!

No problem!

First I'll start by saying that the first 2 or 3 days were kinda rough, especially the first. I honestly went cold turkey..put him in big boy underwear and let him hang out inside in underwear and a tee shirt all day. I would physically lead him to the bathroom every half hour and sit him on the potty (I bought a potty seat) and wait till he peed and clap and praise him. I offered treats for going as well, which he soon got the hang of Chat Icon

He definitely had a lot of accidents...at first it was like he didn't even care he was wet...he would be feeling himself and look at me funny, but go back to playing. I would tell him "oh what happened? Yucky, you're all wet!". I woudln't make him feel bad, just enough to let him know that being all wet isn't fun.

Then it evolved into him telling us "Oh no im all wet" and I would say "its ok accidents happen, lets go use the potty now". Always follow an accident with sitting on the potty and immediately changing the underwear and reinforce that being "all dry" is so nice.

I bought an Elmo potty DVD which he loves and that helped too...I would let him watch it while he sat on the small potty, lol. But he prefers to go on the toilet and just uses the potty seat we bought him at target.

I would say after 5 days or so he was the one telling us "mommy i pee pee potty"...so i would quickly grab him, bring him to the bathroom and he would go.

I didn't stay cooped up inside like lots of people do...I walked him to the park on the second day of training (I just was sure to bring extra underwear and shorts), I went to target for a quick trip, etc...for some reason he didn't ever really have an accident outside the home..it was more when we were inside that it would happen..still not sure why...but we got lucky and he was really great about holding it when we were out. I also ALWAYS immediately took him to the bathroom anywhere public even if the trip was only 5 minutes from home.

Just constantly constantly reinforcing "Good job Johnny, you're all dry!!!" "Oh wow you pee peed on the potty, great job!! seemed to help him so much. I bought thomas stickers too that he got to decorate the potty with after he went, lol.

Hope this helps a bit. I know everyone tailors their situation to their child...no child will train the same way, but I just cannot believe he "got it" this quickly. I am so happy I stuck with it!! good luck!!
