Itchy dogs but no fleas?
I have 6 dogs, for the past few days, it seems like there is something moving thru all of them. They are itching like crazy and just acting funny, almost a little mental. It started with one dog, 2 days later she was fine, then another dog, and so on down the line. They dont have fleas, we have given them all oatmeal baths, and we just cant figure out what it is! Since its short term, i dont think its allergies. There is no significant hair loss, just a little from scratching so much i guess. Any idea of what it might be? TIA!

Re: Itchy dogs but no fleas?
It's probably allergies, my dogs have had them at one time or another. If they don't have irritated skin or hair loss I wouldn't think it would be anything more serious. Have they been in any new environments (like running through a high grass area, poison ivy, etc.?) because that could be it too but if not I'd think allergies.

no they havent been anywhere new. the thing that makes me think its not allergies is that it is hitting them one by one and only lasting a few days. theres also been some throwing up. i throught it could be viral but i havent been able to find anything online supporting that guess.

Re: Itchy dogs but no fleas?
Seasonal allergies. My dog has officially gone into itch mode. She is on special Eukanuba allergy formula so I know it's not her food. My gf's dog is doing the same thing withon the last few days....

Re: Itchy dogs but no fleas?
My dog has been on prednisone basically since we got her because she was very itchy at first (July) and then it got much better and we were starting to wean her off of it.
The last week or so it got suddenly worse, so I emailed my vet who said it is definitely the allergies - we are in a high allergen period with the weather already starting to change, so we are going to continue her on the prednisone a while longer.
We also give her half a benadryl when it gets bad (per the vet - she is 60 lbs though so check the dosage with your vet before trying this!).
Edited -- I just read the part about the throwing up and lasting a few days -- I would call your vet!

Re: Itchy dogs but no fleas?
the throwing up isnt lasting a few days, one of them threw up last night and another one a few days ago. we are bringing them in to the vet this week since they are due for shots anyway. if it were up to me they would have already been there but my hands are tied due to financial reasons and i have been waiting on my mil to get moving with it (we live with my inlaws, they are all "our" dogs)
