It was all done in vain
I've been on this diabetes medication for 9 months now. Also made some slow changes including changing to diet drinks, avoiding all juices, switching from bread to wraps and staying way from most sweets (with an occassional treat here and there). And for what? So I can find out I went from a 9.8 to and 8.6(I should be in the high 5's low 6's). I feel like I tried my hardest for nothing. Now they've switched my medication, so lets see what happens.
OK pity party over.

What medication do they have you on? I am on Metformin (also insulin but that is because of the pregnancy, I will go off as soon as I deliver)
Have you been to a nutritionist? I found that to be the most helpful when I was first diagnosed.

Re: It was all done in vain
I was on 1000 2x on metformin. IMO that's pretty strong medication, and it still didnt take. She just switched me over to glucovance. My doc said its two diabetes medications in one. She now has me on 500 2x a day.
I was looking into a nutrionist, but wanted to see where I stand with the diabetes. Looks like this is my best option.

It really helped me so much. I thought I was doing good with my diet until I went to the nutritionist.
You will also be able to use the carb counts in food so if you do want a treat, you just factor it in.

Normal average for a non diabetic is between 5 and 6. Anything over 6.5 is prediabetic and anything over 7.5 is really bad. Anything remotely close to 10 is extremely dangerous. This test is basically an average of your sugar levels in a 3 month period. So when I was first diagnosed I was 9.8. So for me to go down to an 8.6 is very disappointing.

There was a slight difference... was the medication supposed to get you in that 5/6 range?

We were hoping for at least 7.

I used someone from the Pregnancy in Diabetes Center. I'm not sure if you could use them if your not pregnant. Here is the link to their website:

Thanks. I just checked my medical plan and they have a few listed also. Just trying not to think about it. I'm really upset.
