It so could be worse

Failed my 2 hour glucose test. I have gd. Booooo
Calling madonna perinatal first thing tomorrow to make an appointment. The doc checked off biophysical profile, maternal-fetal medicine consultation, dietary counseling & home glucose monitoring instruction. Take a guess which two i have zero idea what they are. Chat Icon

What can i expect from this appointment? Should I be prepared and bring what I eat in a day or week? How bad is the diet? I eat pretty good as it is but I really love cheat days and my occasional junk food.

okay... its okay im only 3 days into the GD diet and I too went to Madonna on Monday.. in all honesty I was in tears thinking about it.. but its not so bad.. and I feel really good. I just tested my glucose for the first time ( just got the meter in the mail) and it was super low.. I felt like I was doing a good job after feeling so crapppy. Anyways, I didnt bring anything with me.. she asked me what I normally ate and we targeted what seemed to be the problem(s) area. I end up eating much more on this die.t. it just WHAT i eat... sadly no more bagels in the morning. But its totally doable! Good Luck!!!

The diet really isn't that bad. Testing blood sugar 4 times per day kind of sucks, but you get used to it. I'm a few weeks into this and it has definitely gotten better. Other than hating the place that's monitoring me, I've gotten used to the changes. Chat Icon

I was diagnosed like 3-4 weeks ago. I thought the diet would be difficult, but my husband is doing it with me and I think it has really helped me to have the support. Overall, the diet hasn't been bad, I'm definitely not hungry. Good luck, you'll do great!

At first I had to test for keytones in my urine daily and test blood 7 times a day. That's not fun. I felt like I was lucky to test 4 times only. Can u change where you go?

Diabetes in general is learning how to manage you carb intake. Aside from breads, pastas, rice, etc. you'll learn which are better to eat as well as limiting your fruit.

I was recently diagnosed as well. I went to winthrop diabetes center. She waned me to eat so many more carbs than i was. Still cant eat that much. doesnt work for me. If i want something sweet, it is skinny cw or sugar free puddings. You do get used to it, but it is all a learning process, adn ultimately frm what i am hearing sticking to this will help you take teh weight off after baby. Since starting ive already lost 7 lbs. not that i had gained much, but still down. id offer advice, but im still learning as well. Just know you arent alone.. take it easy...Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: It so could be worse

See, now aren't you glad you did the 2 hour test instead of failing the 1 hour and having to take the 3 hour now (only to wind up failing it, of course) Chat Icon Chat Icon

You will be fine, and knowing you, you will appreciate this diet. You can get creative - you have to, or you'll eat the same shit every day. I'm assuming you're going to madonna in mineola? One of the dieticians is not very nice but I blocked her name from my memory. Just be prepared. The other one is very sweet.

I was diagnosed, I believe at the end of july last year. Do a search for my posts after that time and you'll see some meal ideas, as well as other people's - there were a couple of lengthy threads.

I'll be in my office today so feel free to g-chat or text or email me.

PS - remember when we went to besito last summer after i was diagnosed with GD and remember how much it sucked for me while you guys were scarfing down EVERYTHING? remember that?? Chat Icon Chat Icon

ETA: no more cheat days, or junk food. bring a sample meal schedule. you'll be there for a while, you'll meet with a few different people.

The biophsyical part is nothing. Quick little sono. I had them done weekly when I was goign to them for the blood clots.

You are far along so the diet part won't be for long and its not the end of the world.

Smiley LOOOOOVED the diet - it was so much easier for him to stick to his own diet without me having junk food in the house. Hope you don't have any meat aversions!!
I am DYING to go to besito... once the baby bear gets over her 7,000 day illness (that's seriously what it feels like at this point), we can go.
I'm laughing b/c I'm pretty sure I reused like 2 chips and ate an entire bowl of guacamole (i do not recommend this as my numbers were awful after that meal anyway).
