It blows my mind that...

people don't do a search on LIW, or look beyond the first page when they have a question. It's not rocket science to see that if you are looking for a certain vendor, type it in to "search" and a million things will pop up...or, if you're asking about say, the Fox Hollow, but don't even look to see if there's a recent thread on it beyond...oh....the first page...then that's annoying! Right?

That's an on going issue with a lot of boards I've been on and see. It's laziness as far as not looking past the first page to see if anyone posted the EXACT same question as you four billion times already.

I share the same sentiments as you!

Agreed....if you look, you'll see what I mean right now. Whatever...I'm just being a brat! It's total laziness. I think it's better to do a search; you get new, old, and all sorts of feedback.

Yes, I see EXACTLY what you're talking about. I was just there and saw your post...which wasn't even necessary, but hey....sometimes you have to lead the blind right?

I'm also dumbfounded that no one bothers to read the OP or the question at hand, and ends up rambling about something irrelevant or related to them. Chat Icon

Oh, and I wanted to add this:

isn't it common sense to research a vendor before you start dealing with them?

I researched every single vendor before walking into their offices or signing a contract. I understand there are neg's and pos' about each vendor, but seriously now....that site's a goldmine if you utilize it properly instead of just complaining all the time.

Yes. To be honest, I didn't join LIW (or discover it) until I was basically done with the booking part. I did my own research, etc...and then sought out information on who I'd booked, but I already knew I was in good hands for the most part with them all. (Except one I cancelled at the last minute, which had nothing to do with something I'd read over there, but because a final appointment was a total letdown, and the vendor was rude and services lacked what the contract said)

In their defense, the search engine is not always the best. I know there are times when I would search for something, and come up with tons of posts that were irrelevent, and, other times when I would know I had seem a post about something the week before, but when I would search it wouldn't show.

I agree that a lot of the time it is laziness, but sometimes it's a faulty search engine :P

That could be it, too. But it's just funny to me when, yesterday, everyone posted about this one thing in particular...it can't be more than one page away, and today, someone comes on and asks the exact same thing...

I always enjoyed when people called them out on it. Like here's a link to what you just posted - it's on page 1 or 2 (same question was asked that morning or something). Chat Icon

To play devil's advocate - sometimes you can do all the research in the world and end up on the short end of the stick. Which happened to me. Finding a reliable hair person was key because I wasn't using my regular stylist since I was an OOT bride. My person had not one negative thing said about her, and had awesome creditials...needless to say, I ended up with no hair person the morning of my wedding.

But it is a goldmine... if one person saw my review and was heeded off, then it was worth it!

It was thanks to your review and your honest feedback that other brides now know. It's true that the neg's aren't always there and you go into a vendor unfortunately like you had.

I joined LIW after all my vendors were basically booked also- I am kind of glad it worked out that way- I feel like alot of people rely on other peoples opinions too much and don't do there own research-

it great to get feedback oon stuff- but you have to be your own person also

and no one uses the search buttom

I also find that being honest about a vendor doesn't help... For example...I was honest about my horrible experience with my DJ and had a girl go absolutely INSANE about it freaking out on ever board possible...THEN I got harrassing e-mails from the vendor...Chat Icon Needless to say...no review was or will ever be done because of her and her actions.
But...I will say I enjoyed reading her review of them...Chat Icon

Re: It blows my mind that...

the search does stink -

honestly, if you ask enough people you are going to get horror stories about anywhere. Some girls hear one bad review and throw a hissy fit....

right now there are two separate threads on the same vendor - and the same people keep posting on the two different ones....its annoying!

i know the search engine can $uck sometimes, but I saw a post about a topic that had a 20+ page thread just a few posts below. You didn't even have to scroll down the page to see it. Chat Icon

Every day there are tons of marriage license questions. LIW has a whole area dedicated to it, which gives all the requirements, phone numbers etc.... I used to constantly just post the link which would get ignored because they would still be asking the same question in the thread. I've since stopped doing it..... Chat Icon Chat Icon

Yes, sometimes the search feature stinks, but I'm pretty sure every question you can think of has been posted along with an answer.

Re: It blows my mind that...

I know. I used to love to do a search and see all the old posts on the subject I was looking into.
