Is this strange (gift related)
My stepsister visited me several times in the hospital, brought her kids, all excited about her new nephew, calling herself "aunt ___" and telling me how the kids are so excited about their new baby cousin, yada yada...
She never gave a gift!!!
I'm not in this for the gifts, trust me. BUT - I don't show up for any hospital visit without something - a teddybear, something.... for anyone I'm visiting...
Plus, she was looking thru all of the gifts people gave me and commenting on them... DH thought it was strange too.
My friend said - maybe she will give a gift when I come home - but she hasn't - its at the point where it doesnt make sense...
Should I say anything to my stepmother? I'm trying to find a good way to say it, or bring it up - its not the gift, its the point of it. I know if I didnt give a gift when her kids were born, I would never hear the end of it.... BUT - it would never dawn on me to not give a gift!!!!
I dont know - what do you ladies think?

Did she give you a gift for your shower?
I know out here in CO we don't give hospitals gifts or bring anything to the house. I mean I do because it's what I'm used to doing but it's not the norm since people gave a gift at the shower.

Me personally I would not say anthing. I think it is stange for her to show up at the hospital empty handed, but not worth bringing it up to anyone.
Who knows maybe she ordered something and is waiting for it to come in the mail.

I didnt even have a shower and I had MANY visitors without gifts. I also thought it was strange and I dont think you are "in it for gifts" but I do think the norm is to give a gift. I was a little peturbed that my dd was given nothing by a few.

I would NEVER say anything to anyone.........and to be honest it wouldnt bother me if someone came to visit and didnt bring a gift. People were generous with the shower gifts, that I wouldnt expect another gift...

I wouldn't stress over it too much. There have been many occasions in which I forgot a gift and I was embarassed about it but still wanted to go where I had to go.
I am sure you will get something somewhere along the line...

maybe she is going to give you a gift when she comes tp the baby at your hiuse or didn't want you to have to carry extra stuff home. I don't think it is strange. I wouldn't say anything.

I thought the same thing.
I had one person that brought me flowers and nothing for baby. which was very very thoughtful, but different also.

Well - she is very vocal about things that she does - she wants everyone to know - so she would mention many many times if a gift was on the way.
at the baby shower she gave me a basket of sugar scrub for me that was made by someone she knows. So, at this point, she gave nothing at all for the baby. Its just odd because she is making such a big deal about her baby nephew... and being his aunt... I don't know. She's weird anyway.
she just makes a big deal of gifts and things like that. I won't say anything, but I just think its very odd.
But you ladies are right - its pointless to say anything....

Liza, could it be that she thinks you are having a bris? If that is the case, she may be holding out on you for THAT occasion. Or maybe she special ordered something that had to be personalized. Or maybe she just was looking at the other gifts to try to "one up" someone else. Just some thoughts!

Well - my stepmom knows we arent having a bris - so she should know too - and she's not about One Upping when it comes to me - only those that will really put her in the spot light... guess its just her personaity...

a lot of people did give me gifts after ds was born, but i wasn't expecting anything. i think the shower gift is more than enough. but maybe she'll bring you something at home. personally i'd rather get gifts at home than have to lug them all home from the hospital.

Yeah - I wasnt execting anything from random people that came, but when its your sister (she has been in my life since I was 9) I guess its just a bit odd...

I was thinking the same thing...for your sister I mean - I brought stuff for you to lug home anyway.
I know when I visited my friend in the hospital right before you, I was more concerned with making it before visiting hours were up. There was no time for gifts.
Also did she have a shower? It may be the superstitious thing that she wanted to wait until he was here. She only gave YOU something for your shower. Not the baby.

I'm STILL getting gifts for Ava at 10 months old, so maybe she's just a slow gift giver Probably not, but it was worth a shot!

I have given up trying to figure people out. I had people who not only brought baby gifts to the hospital, but also brought me gifts and others who brought nothing.....

I usually wait until after the baby comes home to bring a gift...My reasoning has come from experience b/c with all the flowers and other gifts there is so much to bring home..although I do usually bring Mom a snack of some sort for the hospital.
