Is this rude? Maybe I am too sensitive
I am not sure if this is rude or just my interpretation.
DH got an e-mail from his cousin in Poland telling him that she had ordered an iPod to be delivered to our house and could we make sure someone was there to sign for it on XXX day so that MIL who is visiting us now could bring it back to her.
I know this not the ultimate in rudeness but DH and I were both stunned by the boldness of his cousin. We haven't spoken to her in a few months . She didn't call us or e-mail us before hand to ask if it was okay. She e-mailed AFTER she ordered the iPod and then had the nerve to ask if we would make sure someone would be home to sign for it?
Who does these things?
Oh yeah, my wicked DH e-mailed her and thanked her for the early Christmas present!

ehhh i would think it was ruder if she asked you to pay for it 
i wouldnt be too bothered by it... if you cant be there, then don't... i'd probably just make fun of her with DH

Yeah, I don't think it is the worst thing. I guess it just bugs me that she didn't think to make communication first. She obviously knew MIL is here visiting. How difficult could it have been to ask my FIL to call us and okay it before placing the order?
I guess this pg hormones are making me too sensitive.

It would annoy me a lot. In the end, I'd chalk it up to the iPOD being of such value to someone in Poland, and maybe the inability to get one another way or at a decent price?????

Rude in my opinion.
She could have taken the 5 minutes to call you first and ask if it was okay.
Depending on how much I liked this cousin I would make sure I was NOT at home when the package arrived.

Yep, me too...
she could have simply asked first if you would mind doing her a favor-- explained what she needed-- and asked if you or DH didn't mind.
that's all- it's simple to ask and i think it's polite and considerate.

Considering that neither my DH or I could be home to sign for anything unless we took the day off of work, I'd be miffed.
But if they knew that typically one of you is home during the day, they might have just assumed it's ok.
I wouldn't do that without asking first though.

How close are you all?
I wouldnt think it was rude if any of my friends or family did it...maybe a distant relative yes.....
But especially since your MIL is there...it kinda makes sense.
They should have asked you first YES definatly but I wouldnt get upset over it.

I am not home to receive my own packages, no way am I taking time off to sign for someone else's stuff.

since she's out of the country where I assume iPods cost a lot more, I wouldn't think it's rude. but I might respond by telling her to ask next time.

Wow, I am so surprised this got bumped.
I am not really angry, but how difficult would it have been to call before ordering?
I also surprised there are so many people who think it is not at all rude. I am not saying that I think it is the rudest thing anyone ever did, but I find it hard to believe that some people think it is not the slightest bit rude.
Oh yeah, DH and I haven't spoken to this cousin in a few months, actually probably since June when we were in Poland.

I would be a little annoyed.
Do you work?? If you don't work, I wouldn't be annoyed. But if you do work, I would definitely be a little annoyed. You have to take a day off of work to receive her iPod?
