According to my grandma (take this with a grain of salt, she is 81 a bit cooky and Italian) When a bird flys INTO (inside) the house it means death. Outside, poor thing met his fate with a kitty cat.

I think it was probably just a kitty. My IL's cat does this all the time she is bringing her prize home it is so gross.

Re: Is This A Bad Omen?
It's not a bad omen - it's just a dead bird!
Please throw it away in a garbage bag using a shovel (and wear gloves), though. Don't move it out where other wild life can get it. While it likely not carrying diseases, you don't want to take the chance that is is carrying diseases that can be spread to other animals (e.g., West Nile).

i already buried it. i believe anything that lives should at least have a decent burial and a prayer said for it. i felt so sorry for the poor little thing.

That's very nice of you.
I only mentioned disposing of the body because West Nile has been found before in our area. I have horses and WNV is a threat to many animals, especially horses (transferred from biting insects that bite birds and then other animals). Any time a bird is found dead with no apparent cause of death (no marks from being killed by a cat, for example), it should be properly disposed of for the safety of other animals and people.

Re: Is This A Bad Omen?
Bad omen no....
The 2nd week living in my house, I came home from work and there was a dead bird in my living room
I think what happened though was my cat got into the attic and for whatever reason that bird was in my attic and kitty caught it and it was her play toy during the day. It wasn't mangled or anything, just in my liviing room.

that was very nice of you to bury it.

I did, and to make matters worse, my husband is terrified of birds (live or dead) and wouldn't come home from work until I got rid of it!

Sounds like my hubby. He's a big bad cop but freaks out over certain bugs in the house!!!
