is there an OTC med I can take for a UTI?
I think I feel one coming on, is there something I can try at home before going to the dr. for cipro?

Just for the pain you can take Uristat and lots of cranberry juice.

i think they have cranberry pills, or else a straight cranberry concentrate that you can try to down as quick as possible.

Uristat will definitely make the pain go away but it won't make the UTI go away, I would go to the dr. and get an antibiotic.

Life Fitness cranberry chews- they have them at CVS. They taste like Starburst and have worked for me.

100% cranberry juice from the health food store...dilute it with 1/2 to 3/4 water...add a splenda or two if you need....drink a few times a day...works wonders...better than the pills. It must be the straight cranberry though...feel better

I agree with the other ladies. You can do some home remedies, buy over-the counter meds that can help alleviate symptoms, but they will not do anything for the bacteria/infection in your urinary tract. For that you will need an antibiotic.

i know my pharmacist said that she just drinks GALLONS of cranberry juice and that will get rid of it
but, i was always nervous to try it bc if the UTI gets bad enough it can lead to kidney failure etc.

I find that if I am just feeling the beginning "twinges" of it I can sometimes ward it off with a ton of water and the cranberry pills or the 100% cranberry juice.
Once it's full blown though- you need the antibiotic.
Uristat will help with the pain in the meantime though...

thanks everyone... I don't have any pain..yet... I have just had to pee a million times in the past 24 hrs, i got up 4 times in the middle of the night. If it continues I'll go see the dr.

You can take Uristat which will give you temporary relief but you need to see an MD ASAP...the only way you'll treat the bacteria is with antibiotics.

Cran-Apple isn't as strong as Cranberry and it works great on UTI's. Feel better

i would go to the dr asap lauren and just get the antibiotics. my doc always told me the SECOND i feel a hint of UTI coming on to get the meds cause if you wait too long it will make everything far worse! drink lots and lots and lots and lots of water and cranberry juice!!!! feel better!

I would definitely drink cranberry juice and get uristat - but do not let it go - i wanted to kick myself for not getting medicine faster
